The Halo Project is an award-winning, by-and-for service based in Middlesbrough supporting Black and minoritised (BME) women and children survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence. Our specialist charity supports women and children from a diverse range of communities to escape and recover from domestic and sexual abuse, including hidden harms such as honour-based abuse, forced marriage and female genital mutilation. Our aim is to safeguard, support and empower women and children so they can feel safe, protected, and equipped with the tools to reach their full potential.

You will be responsible for the development, launch and delivery of our brand new BME children’s and young people’s service support model to be delivered in our Safe Housing and in the community across Cleveland, North Yorkshire, and Durham. The young people and children you will support will be at risk of or will have witnessed or suffered domestic abuse, sexual violence and/or hidden harms, which may include forced marriage, female genital mutilation, and honour-based abuse.

Ideally you will live in the Cleveland area, have a children and young people’s qualification to level 4/5 in Children’s Service, have experience of safeguarding and/or delivering services to children and young people, and have worked to support vulnerable young people, perhaps in the voluntary, private, education or health and wellbeing sectors. You will have a track record of safeguarding, have an understanding of domestic and sexual violence in Black and minoritised communities, and be supportive, understanding, and empathetic. You will have a flexible approach and be a team player.

The right applicant will be able to demonstrate that they meet the following criteria

**Essential**
- Certificate/qualification in work relating to children/young people
- The ability to empower children and young people
- Experience of working with children and young people
- Experience of working with Black and minoritised children and young people and understand specific issues which impact diverse communities in relation to domestic and sexual violence and abuse.
- Understanding of the impact of domestic violence on the family unit
- Understanding of the impact of domestic violence on children and young people
- An understanding and commitment to Equal Opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices.
- An understanding of confidentiality issues relating to domestic violence support work
- An understanding of child protection issues and safeguarding
- The ability to work on your own initiative or as part of a team
- The ability to work under pressure and in conflict or crisis situations
- A commitment to Halo Project values
- Positive attitude to children and young people
- Good communication skills both written and spoken
- Ability to communicate with children, young people, adults and professionals alike
- Good record-keeping skills
- An understanding of health and safety issues
- Active listening and advocacy skills
- An understanding of support planning and needs assessment
- Excellent IT skills
- A full driving licence and use of a car
- Willingness to complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check which will be funded by Halo on acceptance of job offer

**Desirable**
- Live in Cleveland or neighbouring areas
- Awareness of local available services and resources
- Understanding of IT systems such as Microsoft Office/Teams/OneDrive etc
- Additional language skills e.g., bilingual, multilingual, Makaton or BSL
