This salaried development scheme provides a genuine experience in criminal investigations, across a variety of areas of business, enabling you to make an informed decision about policing as a career whilst providing you with transferrable employability skills valued in all professions.

Nottinghamshire Police seeks your graduate level skills and abilities and you will be able to make a valuable contribution to the people of Nottinghamshire. We are looking to recruit students who have undertaken a degree programme where they have developed skills that are transferable to the role of investigator.
- You will complete Nottinghamshire’s PIP Level 1 training programme at our brand new Training facility at Force HQ for 10 weeks. After this you will be posted to a Prisoner Handling Team in Force to learn and begin developing your investigatory skills, managing investigations through prisoner process and building criminal files through the Criminal Justice System.
- After this you will be placed on a Volume Crime PIP2 team to start enhancing your investigation skills through criminal case management of such offences as burglary, robbery, domestic abuse. Here you will attend crime scenes, manage victims, complete witness statements, lines of enquiries to progress crimes and suspect management.
- For your final placement you will move to a PIP2 Core Policing role on CID or Public Protection to work alongside Detectives on Serious and Complex Crimes, investigating crimes like serious assault, kidnap, firearms offences, rape and serious sexual offences.
- Work alongside police officers and other experienced police staff in conducting investigations, gathering intelligence and preparing case files for court.
- Have a dedicated Professional Development Officer to support you through your PIP1 portfolio.
- Work in a fast paced environment where each day brings new challenges and opportunities.

You will be provided with 10 weeks initial training, a Professional Development Officer to support you passing your PIP1 accreditation and invaluable experience in a PIP 2 role working alongside the Forces Detectives.

You will learn:

- Investigation techniques, analytical and research skills
- Communication, engagement and team working skills
- How to gather evidence and present at court, undertake risk assessments and deal with people at all levels.

You will need:

- A degree involving elements of research, gathering information and/or data which allow you to demonstrate your ability to assess this critically and arrive at decisions and/or conclusions.
- An enquiring mind with a desire to analyse information and solve problems
- Organisational skills with a keen eye for detail
- A willingness to learn and develop new skills
- Confidence to communicate and engage with people from diverse backgrounds
- To work well independently and as part of a team towards a common goal
- The role will cover an average of 37 hours per week working in line with a rotating shift pattern covering the hours of 8am-10pm Monday-Sunday.
