Associate Practitioner

The NHS Mycology Reference Centre, Manchester offers a highly specialised diagnostic service primarily serving Manchester, the north of England and Scotland but also receives daily referrals from throughout the UK and beyond.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, aspirational, and highly motivated Associate Practitioner to join our our well-established and friendly team, working within a modern, well equipped, fully UKAS ISO15189 accredited laboratory.
You will have a good general educational standard with GCSE Grade C or above, in English and Maths (or equivalent), and a foundation degree (or equivalent scientific qualification) relevant to the post.
Previous experience of working in an ISO-accredited microbiology laboratory is highly desirable, especially skilled in working with yeasts and moulds, and proficiency with MALDI-ToF microbial identification systems.
You should have good communication skills, be able to work well in a team, remain calm under pressure, and be able to prioritise workload. The work requires excellent attention to detail, and high levels of both concentration and manual dexterity. A flexible attitude is essential as is the ability to work to tight deadlines.
You will join a team of healthcare scientists and medical laboratory assistants to support delivery of a comprehensive scientific service (analytical and interpretative) by the Mycology Reference Centre to nationally accepted standards.
You will maintain a high standard of work and contribute to developing the service of the laboratory so that service delivery is safe, effective, and economical and follows best practice according to ISO15189 standard.
You will also have an interest in quality, assisting the team to ensure accreditation to UKAS ISO 15189 standard is maintained.
