Aberdeen, United Kingdom The James Hutton Institute Full time

**Main Purpose of Job**

We are seeking a dynamic and self-motivated person to coordinate the implementation and further development of the work of the North-East Scotland Biodiversity Partnership’s (NESBiP) Strategic Delivery Plan and deliver the action programme the plan outlines.

The role will involve promoting the value of biodiversity to the local community and delivering the goals of the partnership. Also, you will support Partners in delivering actions for priority habitats and species, with regard to the Nature Conservation Act 2004 and the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy and emerging delivery plans.

**Partnership Organisations**

The North-East Scotland Biodiversity Partnership Steering Group is a partnership established to progress the North East Scotland Local Biodiversity Action Plan. The Group consists of representatives from the following organisations: Aberdeenshire, Moray and Aberdeen City Councils, Forestry Commission Scotland, National Farmers’ Union of Scotland, Scottish Environment Protection Agency, NatureScot, Neptune Energy and the James Hutton Institute.

Representatives of the James Hutton Institute, NatureScot, Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray Councils constitute the Management Group, which oversees the day-to-day work of the Coordinator.

The aims of the Partnership are:
1. To improve the protection and enhancement of the biodiversity of North-East Scotland by providing information and advice to partners, decision makers, developers, land managers, businesses, communities, organisations and individuals; and to provide a focus for information exchange.

2. To promote and demonstrate the effective delivery of biodiversity gains through our own projects as well as collaborating with the work and actions of others.

3. To raise awareness and build capacity within local businesses, organisations, communities and individuals to encourage and motivate them to act to protect and enhance biodiversity in their core work and by demonstrating that they can make a difference.

4. To promote examples of high quality, innovative biodiversity projects in North-East Scotland to decision makers, developers, managers and potential funders/supporters across Scotland and beyond and to celebrate these successes.

**Main Duties of Postholder**
- To raise awareness and promote the value of biodiversity to the community of North-East Scotland.
- To maintain working relationships with local organisations and initiatives related to the Strategic Delivery Plan process.
- To contribute to the network of biodiversity partnerships across Scotland.
- To assist NESBiP partners with action related to the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy and Nature Conservation Act 2004.
- To support partners in implementation of actions and provide secretariat to the NESBiP Steering and Management Groups.

Duties typically include:

- Promote the local biodiversity process and develop specific awareness-raising initiatives with local community groups, landowners, businesses and others.
- Maintain links with the media.
- Support partner organisations in incorporating actions into operational plans and work programmes, in relation to their duty under the Nature Conservation Act 2004.
- Develop specific collaborative biodiversity projects with partners as detailed in our action plans.
- Support and co-ordinate internal (within partners) and external awareness raising events.
- To assist the Awareness Group of the Partnership in their work.
- To manage the website, develop content for it and maintain our social media activities.

**Person Specification**

**Education/Experience/Skills**

**Essential**
- Working knowledge of biodiversity and conservation policies and issues.
- Excellent communication skills, including the use of social media.
- Ability and willingness to speak in public.

**Desirable**
- Experience of working with statutory agencies, non-governmental organisations, industry, business and local authorities.
- Experience of working with local community groups and the public.
- Experience in consultation techniques, marketing and negotiation.
- Experience in administration and organisation of stakeholder groups.
- Good working knowledge of information technology.
- Grant writing experience and project management experience.

**Additional notes/Requirements**

The post will run in the first instance to 31 March 2026. The Partnership is dependent upon external funding, some of which is under review. The Partnership intends to continue, but extending this post depends upon extension of the current Partnership Agreement.

Day-to-day management of the Coordinator is through the NESBiP Management Group, which includes the James Hutton Institute Line Manager (Robin Pakeman). Reports, both verbal and written, are presented to the NESBiP Steering Group, who are responsible for overseeing the work, and approving decisions and expenditure.
