We’re looking for a tax trainee primarily based in the Carmarthen office to work alongside the existing team due to the growth in the client base. The start date for the role will be August/September 2023.

**The role**

As part of your role as a tax trainee you will provide assistance with the preparation of Self Assessment and income expenditure statements for clients and also assist your colleagues with obtaining information for the completion of tax returns. As well as providing tax administration, you will also be communicating with HMRC and really gaining a full insight into the world of taxation.

Duties and responsibilities could include:

- Preparation of personal tax calculations
- Assisting the tax team with personal tax compliance work and other tax compliance filings
- Preparation of letters to clients advising on their tax position
- Preparation of capital gains tax calculations on disposal of assets
- Carry out tax basic tax planning research for individuals and businesses and summarise findings for review by senior/director
- Preparation of forms for HMRC such as SA1 and SA401 to register for self assessment
- Learn about PAYE coding notices and be able to contact HMRC to make any adjustments
- Respond to HMRC correspondence and assisting with enquiries
- Preparing data spreadsheets and schedules
- Assisting the tax team with ad-hoc tasks
- Attending client meetings
- Providing support to the other LHP offices as required
- Support for study towards professional tax qualifications can be considered

Person Specification:

- You will either be looking for a career in tax or you will already be in a similar role currently within an accountancy practice or involved in a more mixed accounts and tax role, with a desire to specialise in tax.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to prepare and present accurate, effective, complete and easily understood pieces of work
- Able to communicate effectively face to face and over the phone with clients and 3rd parties
- Ability to follow and interpret rules and procedures in line with tax legislation
- Ability to work independently and to deadlines
- Ability to work in a team and show willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily
