**Post Title**: Data Scientist - Transport Network Optimisation (KTP Associate)**SBU/Department**: Physics, Engineering and Computer Science**FTE**: 1**Duration of Contract**: Fixed term for 32 months**Salary**: £33,000 - £36,000 depending on skills and experience**Location**: DigiHaul, Hatfield and De Havilland Campus, Hatfield**Main duties and responsibilities**
- This is an exciting opportunity to manage and deliver the KTP project plan, to undertake research and development and to improve network efficiency for road haulage problems. This will involve working collaboratively between DigiHaul and the University of Hertfordshire to undertake in house design, development and testing of the network optimisation solution. You will undertake the project through research and development phases, engaging in creative problem solving; project planning and review, and leveraging help from wider company staff. You will be expected to develop relevant training sessions and materials to embed the new knowledge and capabilities within the company.- You will handle data collection and analysis and contribute on the design and organisation of the project as well as work with academic team members on peer reviewed papers and presentations. In addition, you will be expected to disseminate the results and outputs of the project and ensure the collating and writing of final project are of a high standard. Furthermore, you will take an active part in the academic life of the School through participation in seminars and other similar events.**Skill and experience required**
- You will have proven experience working in a research environment and be able to demonstrate effective project management and interpersonal skills. The role requires knowledge of data analysis, machine learning and optimisation, as well as computational programming skills (e.g. Python or R). You will be able to evidence experience in software development and ideally deep learning with TensorFlow or Pytorch or similar software. You will be methodical, have good attention to detail, able to work to deadlines as a team and independently, as well as be able to handle sensitive data with strict confidence. Strong oral and written English communication skills are essential in this role alongside good time management and the ability to work well in a team environment.- Hours of work are 40 per week (8 hours per day, 5 days a week).
