Maintenance Worker

Plas Dwbl is a provision for Ruskin Mill Trust in Wales based on a 100 acre bio-dynamic farm at the foot of the Preseli Hills. Building on the success of Coleg Plas Dwbl in North Pembrokeshire, Ruskin Mill Trust launched Ty’r Eithin, near Swansea in South Carmarthen, in September 2020. Both Plas Dwbl and its satellite Ty’r Eithin offer Ruskin Mill Trust’s innovative Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE) method giving young people the opportunity to overcome barriers to learning, become skilled through doing real life purposeful activities, and engage as valued members of the community.

**Maintenance Worker**

**40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year**

**Salary range from 1st June 2023 effective: £21,756.96 - £23,418.23**

**Salary range from 1st September 2023 effective: £22,192.10 - £24,120.78**

**Salary dependant on experience and qualifications.**

Coleg Plas Dwbl is based in Pembrokeshire and operates several houses situated in different community settings where students live supported by Plas Dwbl staff. (Suberb parking is available where college vehicles are available to collect).

The Maintenance Worker’s primary role will be to work as part of a maintenance team to maintain and repair the buildings, fixtures and fittings at all Trust sites across Pembrokeshire/Carmarthenshire.

**Applicants must have excellent practical skills and a clean full driver’s licence. **You must be willing to work flexibly, travelling between the sites and residential houses which are situated in different areas of the county. The core working hours will be daytime during the week, however, the Maintenance Worker may occasionally be required to respond to emergency evening and weekend call-outs where necessary, with time taken off in lieu.

The key duties of this role will include:

- Carrying out all aspects of site maintenance and repairs with the exception of gas and electrical works (unless qualified)
- Assembling and carrying out repairs to office and domestic furniture
- Carrying out basic landscaping/outdoor maintenance
- Visiting local merchants to obtain materials as required
- Responding to emergency call outs possibly in the evenings and at weekends
- Some caretaking duties

The criteria required to undertake this position successfully include:

- Experience and practical skills in property maintenance and Health and Safety
- A team worker who is able to follow instructions and solve problems using their own initiative
- Experience of carrying out a varied workload ensuring completion of tasks within strict deadlines
- Having a driving licence as you will be required to drive from site to site within the Pembrokeshire/Carmarthenshire area.
- Experience of working in a building maintenance or caretaking role with DIY skills
- Trade background and experience of repairing school, office or residential buildings would be desirable although not essential
- Experience of working in a similar type of organisation or with young people/people with learning disabilities would be advantageous
