Grade 7 - **Senior Highway Safety Inspector - Countywide Maintenance.**

Reporting to a senior manager, working as part of a team of dedicated highway professionals, to deliver a high-quality highway service experience for customers and stakeholders countywide in line with the service key themes:

**Scope of work**

Role holders at this level provide general support, supervision, and co-ordination to a team of 11 Highway Safety Inspectors. Using practical and procedural knowledge, analytical and judgement skills to interpret information or situations to solve varied problems some of which may be difficult and require significant advance planning. Role holders are expected to make decisions as to when and how duties are carried out and respond independently within strict deadlines.

**Accountabilities**
- To supervise and co-ordinate a team of Highway Safety Inspectors delivering a program of routine highway safety inspections within the prescribed Highway Operations procedures and processes under the direct supervision of the line manager or other senior manager.
- Responsible for any administration, assessment and analyses required to support the delivery of works within the relevant LCC policies and procedures.
- To provide information and advice to customers to a high standard and within the service level timescales
- To provide support to the team to ensure completion of the inspection schedule.
- Contribute to the delivery of Key Performance Indicators and agreed service standards.
- To adhere to service standards including the review of safe systems of working and Health and Safety procedures and support less experienced staff
- To actively participate in service working groups and projects to contribute to service improvements and changes.
- To work collaboratively and flexibly ensure a consistent approach to service delivery countywide.
- To undertake training to ensure compliance with the training matrix for the service and to keep up to date with changes in policy. Legislation/contractual requirements to ensure service delivery is effective and compliant.
- Carrying out detailed analysis of reports from across multiple bespoke platforms
- Undertaking regular audits of the teams work to ensure correct procedures are being followed.
- Provide effective and pro-active communication and liaison with our in-house legal team to draft and complete witness statements.
- Responsibility for day-to-day issues relating to inspection duties.
- Monitoring and reviewing administrative and clerical procedures and systems and making recommendations for efficiencies and improvements.
- Managing and co-ordinating workloads to ensure workloads are fulfilled.
- Dealing with confidential correspondence, enquiries and having access to restricted information where appropriate.
- Records management (manual and electronic), including inspection, maintenance, and claims data.
- Attending and leading relevant meetings and taking follow-up action, checking on the progress.
- Work alongside the team manager and liaising with other departments in LCC.
- Undertake additional duties as deemed appropriate by the team manager.

Full training and support will be provided, but the post holder needs to possess a core set of skills. This is a demanding and busy post, and you must:
