Rangers play a vital role at the National Trust and are pivotal in helping look after our special places, for everyone, forever. You'll be leading a team of 7 in the East Staffordshire portfolio at an exciting time, driving forward both great conservation and an outstanding experience for visitors in our outdoor spaces.

**Due to the nature of this role, a full UK driving license will be required.**

What it's like to work here:Reporting to the General Manager, you'll also be part of the Portfolio Leadership team representing the Parkland and Countryside team and working with our visitor operations, curatorial and support teams to deliver the property business plan.

Mainly be based at Shugborough Estate, you'll lead the Parkland & Countryside team with a Livestock Manager, Rangers and Assistant Rangers. You'll be caring for Shugborough’s grade I listed parkland, extensive woodlands and SAC & SSSI heathlands, our in-hand herd of Longhorn cattle, flock of Southdown sheep and Tamworth pigs, and caring for countryside properties at Hawksmoor and Downs Banks.

What you'll be doing:You'll have delegated responsibility for managing the budgets - operational and project - that are required to deliver this work and for protecting and enhancing the Trust’s assets and reputation. Already a strong leader, you're looking for the next step. You'll need extensive knowledge of land management, a track record of delivering to a high standard and able to balance managing and developing our countryside estate and our in-hand farm, with the demands of a busy, high profile visitor environment.

You'll be conserving the heritage environment and responding to the growing needs of our visitors. You’ll support our visitor operations teams, and work closely with our graziers to deliver more for land and nature. You'll be required to work some weekends and bank holidays and carrying out various cross-disciplinary tasks. You’ll regularly work with volunteers and other property team members.

Who we're looking forTo deliver this role successfully, you’ll be a proven leader who is confident and outgoing. You will be highly motivated to deliver great people management, a quality nature conservation management, and an exceptional visitor experience. So, you’ll be;
- An experienced people manager who is organised and self-motivated, with the ability to lead a team to deliver effectively
- An excellent communicator with the confidence to manage a demanding workload with competing pulls on your time and experience in stakeholder management
- Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, inspiring, great with people and comfortable working with a diverse group of people
- Experienced in relevant land, conservation and access management, and good knowledge of delivering agri-environment schemes with and understanding regulations on a highly designated site.
- Customer aware in a visitor focused estate, taking pride in delivering excellent customer service
- Confident in managing budgets, finances and contracts
- Knowledgeable in health and safety requirements and other compliance issues relating to the countryside and visitor activities
