Summary

We would like to extend a warm welcome from all pupils, staff, governors and trustees of Rhyddings. Rhyddings serves the East Lancashire old mill town of Oswaldtwistle and surrounding area. It has been at the heart of the community for 90 years and enjoys good transport links via the M65 corridor and adjoining networks of M6 and M66. The school has been in a period of transition, having returned to our permanent site following a £10 million re-development, back in the heart of our community, and establishing a more normal return to school following the pandemic. We are also part of a group of founding schools to form a new multi-academy trust, within Hyndburn, with a neighbouring high school and two primary schools.
The position is available following the planned retirement of the current post holder.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate reader to enthuse and inspire our pupils; continuing the popularity of our library learning resource centre and making us a reading school.
The librarian will work closely with all teaching staff, but, in particular the English department, supporting the weekly Key Stage 3 ‘Library Lesson’, the focus of which is to improve reading, literacy levels and promote reading for pleasure. This is underpinned by a number of cloud based reading systems in addition to the stock of library books.
You will support a range of interventions from diagnostics, testing and delivery taking place in the library alongside our team of talented and trained teaching assistants. This includes phonics, comprehension, spelling, strategies to improve chronological reading ages, listening to readers and promoting reading for pleasure, whilst exposing pupils to new and challenging texts
The library is open at break times and after school for pupils to access, often supported by a team of pupil librarians.
Whether maintaining library stock, loans or purchasing new texts, you will part of a strong and mutually supportive team. There is further opportunity for professional development and networking within and beyond the Trust. There is also an active librarians network and knowledge base within Lancashire.
