We have an exciting opportunity to work within Morecambe Bay, on the edge of the beautiful Lake District.

This post is ideal for someone already working at Band 6 level or an experienced Band 5 ready to take the next steps in their career. You will be covering a split caseload of stroke and non-stroke patients. This is an excellent opportunity to experience multiple specialty areas including acute stroke, frailty, respiratory and rehabilitation. Ideally you will have undertaken dysphagia training and have some experience of working in an acute setting. You will be a team player and confident of working in a busy multidisciplinary team.

The stroke team are fully embedded in the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Stroke and Neuro Delivery Board and take part in continuous stroke improvement across the region, including an SLT specific development group for those SLTs working in stroke. Technology continues to be an embedded part of our service delivery and therapeutic interventions.

As part of the non-stroke team you will work in a variety of acute and non-acute medical and surgical wards with a wide range of patient conditions. The non-stroke team also deliver into the newly created frailty intervention team, which aims to reduce hospital admissions for patients living with frailty.

As a team we also work closely with our colleagues within the Speech and Language Therapy team to share knowledge/ our experiences and support our patients throughout their health journey.

This role is a full time post (37.5) with the scope for flexible working.

The successful applicant will be based in the acute hospital sites and will work closely with the respective team leads for each caseload. Care will be provided across acute/rehabilitation wards, people’s homes, outpatient clinics and remotely via video consultations.

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with the required clinical knowledge and skills to work autonomously with patients who have communication and swallowing disorders. We are able to provide extra training to developing B5-6 therapists in order to support their progression.

Regular support will be provided both from your Team Leader and through group clinical supervision. You will be encouraged to take an active role in service improvement (both within our own service and our wider healthcare teams), clinical governance and continuing professional development of self and others. You will have the opportunity to support and mentor newly qualified therapists, rehabilitation assistants and students.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
