Coroner's Officer

London, United Kingdom Metropolitan Police Full time

**Job Title: Coroner’s Officer**

**Salary: £32,194 to £34,452 plus a Location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £32,194 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £34,452 will be via incremental progression.**

**Location: Pan-London - Based at Coroners Courts at the following locations: Barnet, St Pancras, Poplar, Walthamstow, Croydon, Southwark, Fulham and Westminster**

**Investigate every death professionally and sensitively**

**Coroners’ Officers investigate causes of death and make sure legal duties are carried out. Homicides, accidents, deaths in custody, routine medical referrals - all must be thoroughly probed and examined. As a Coroner’s Officer, you’ll be at the heart of these efforts, supporting the Coroner in a varied and important role. It’s challenging, rewarding work where you can make a difference, especially to the bereaved.**

You’ll join a team that’s dedicated to making sure the correct cause of death is recorded in every case. Your main task will be to support the Coroner in their duties, following directions, dealing with investigations and managing reported death cases. It involves talking to all** **kinds of people, from GPs and local authorities to the bereaved, so a professional, sensitive approach is essential. You’ll provide information about the coronial process, answer questions and explain statutory requirements.

Working for a Coroner is a job that’s different every day. Every case is unique, so as a Coroner’s Officer, you’ll have a varied workload. That means you need to be highly organised: able to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and manage changing demands. It’s also important that you have some experience in an investigatory role plus GCSEs (or equivalent) and a compassionate approach to dealing with bereaved people. A team worker who’s keen to learn, you’ll be prepared to join an on-call rota and help others whenever you can.

You will be required to take part in the out of hours call rota, approximately 1 week in 4.
