**Early Years Nursery Practitioner (fixed-term)**

**Purpose**

To work effectively as part of a team using personal skills, knowledge and experience to deliver a planned Foundation Stage curriculum and high quality Nursery care, and ensure the four principles (A Unique Child, Positive Relationships, Enabling Environments and Learning and Development) are met.

The Head of Nursery

**Responsible for**

The delivery of high quality nursery care in accordance with the school’s mission statement.

**Context of the Role**

The Nursery has children aged 3 and 4 years. The successful applicant will be required to support the Head and Deputy Head of Nursery in the day to day running of the Nursery.

**Key Responsibilities**
- To plan organised daily activities, within the Early Years framework, appropriate to the different needs and ages of the children
- Ensure observations and record keeping are accurate and complete
- To embrace new initiatives
- To keep up to date with new developments within the Early Years
- To help create a happy and secure environment in which children can develop confidence and grow as individuals, with positive management of children’s behaviour
- To employ good Nursery management skills to supervise groups or individuals, building positive relationships and facilitating their educational development and their social skills
- To check the accident book and daily record book daily
- To offer all children equal opportunities as set out in the school equal opportunities policy
- To encourage independence whenever possible
- To encourage children to develop ‘self-help’ skills and an awareness of personal hygiene eg washing and toileting
- To contribute to children’s ongoing assessment and records of progress and achievement, highlighting any problems or significant achievements in development to the Head of Nursery
- To take time to understand the specific needs and requirements of individual children eg SEN, allergies, dietary needs
- To assist the Nursery staff in maintaining a clean, tidy, organised Nursery environment
- To assist in the preparation of snacks and drinks, supervising lunch times, developing good table manners and eating habits and clearing away after lunch
- To plan for and supervise children in outdoor activities, being aware of their safety and welfare, providing simple first aid when necessary
- To contribute to displays, creating an attractive and stimulating Nursery environment, in line with the school display policy
- To work positively as part of the team, to be included in staff rotas and to attend weekly Nursery Staff meetings
- To attend parent evenings
- Assist with staff inductions and helping new staff to feel part of the Nursery
- To positively promote the Nursery at all times, to develop a good relationship with parents and to be a welcoming presence to any visitors entering the Nursery
- To show good communication skills and feedback to parents as required on issues relating to the Nursery day and answer questions and enquiries
- To be aware of and comply with the school’s Code of Conduct and all Nursery Policies and Procedures
- To assist the Head of Nursery in organising and attending special events, open days and outings
- Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Head or Deputy Head of Nursery.

**Salary**

Up to £12.75 per hour

**Hours**

8am - 5pm, Monday to Friday during term time

Fixed term from 15 April - 5 July 2024

**Person Specification**

Essential:

- Relevant Early Years Foundation Stage Qualification at Level 3.
- Experience of working with children of this age group
- Good level of IT skills
- A reasonable standard of education with proficiency in literacy and numeracy

Desirable:

- Paediatric First Aid qualification

**Job Types**: Full-time, Temporary contract
