Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Marie Curie Hospice Bradford. This is a 2-year fixed term post to provide backfill following the appointment of one of the team to a national role.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join the well-established, consultant led specialist palliative care services in Bradford. The Marie Curie Hospice is a purpose-built unit in the city center offering 12 inpatient beds as well as extensive outpatient and day therapy services. The NHS community palliative care team are based in Shipley Health Centre. The hospital palliative care team works in Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust covering two hospital sites. Working closely together, the services deliver high quality, integrated palliative care to a culturally and ethnically diverse population and have developed innovative models of care for people with nonmalignant disease. There are strong links with the Yorkshire palliative medicine training scheme and the local GP training scheme.

The individual will join the three consultants currently working in the hospital, community and hospice, and will initially be based in the inpatient unit at Marie Curie Hospice. The contract will be held with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The consultants clinically based at the Marie Curie Hospice are responsible for:

- Acting as medical director of the hospice
- The medical care of all inpatients
- Medical input to the day therapy unit and outpatient clinics
- Clinical admission policies in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team
- Contributing to and developing the existing clinical governance programme
- Liaison with hospital services and primary care teams as appropriate
- Supervision, training and appraisal of junior medical staff
- Arranging the on-call duties
- Input to educational activities
- Contributing to local and national strategic planning within Marie Curie

Additional nonclinical responsibilities such as strategic planning, training of junior staff, acting as hospice Medical Director and clinical governance are divided by negotiation amongst the consultants. It is not anticipated that this postholder would be required to act as Medical Director during this contract.
