We are looking for highly motivated individuals with experience of mental health care either as a user/carer/volunteer/employee,. You should be able to work on your own initiative under the support and direction of registered nurses as a member of a multi-disciplinary team that aims to provide high quality inpatient care to a diverse population. You should possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to relate to patients under our care and be able to forge effective professional relationships at varying levels, with care and compassion. We offer induction and training, opportunities for personal development and supervision and support.

The main duties of a Support Worker are to assist the qualified staff in meeting the identified needs of each patient, in a safe and competent manner.

The Support Worker, with the other members of the multi-disciplinary team, will provide a quality service and ensure the highest possible standards of care are maintained at all times.

The Support Worker will be directly responsible to, and under the supervision of the Nurse in Charge.

Forest Lodge is a Low Secure Forensic Unit for men. We provide intensive services for mentally disordered offenders and others requiring secure conditions. We provide a high quality service through multidisciplinary working, and commitment to service user involvement. We challenge stigma and promote recovery. We have a positive team and commit to develop staff through supervision, appraisal, development plans and training opportunities. We are a 24/7 service and all posts will involve working on a rotational shift system including nights.
- Build and maintain safe and effective therapeutic recovery relationships
- Support people to identify their own hopes and goals to improve their quality of life
- Support people to contribute to collaborative care plans
- Support care coordinators/named nurse to develop collaborative care plans and implement them creatively using initiative.
- Understand a person’s experiences in relation to their mental health
- Understand a person’s coping strategies and strengths and support people to use these at times of distress or difficulty
- Be able to recognise increasing risk to alert significant others and the team to respond as needed
- To feel confident to be able to report untoward incidents and areas of concern as soon as they arise
- To attend and contribute to reflective practice and case formulation in order to encourage compassion and understanding.
- To document any relevant information in an electronic record
- Contribute to review systems and team meetings
- Aspire to instil hope and optimism

Each individual has different needs however the list below outlines just some of the practical duties that the post holder will undertake. Support and enable people to/with:

- identify their own goals to improve their quality of life
- contribute to their own recovery plans
- develop recovery plans with their care coordinator/named nurse and implement them creatively using initiative
- express their needs and wishes emotional needs
- locate appropriate accommodation
