**We are looking for an HLTA with ELSA (or willing to train as ELSA)**

**Role Purpose**
Under the direction of the Head of Centre provide support so that children are more able to feel happy and secure and therefore more able to learn.
The post-holder will run specific programmes and activities to assist the pupils’ individual social and emotional needs based on nurture principles and ensure that all safeguarding policies and procedures are followed.
Assisting with the planning, preparation, and development of work programmes for individuals and groups of students and prepare resources to support learning activities
The role will involve building good working relationships with school staff as well as professionals from outside agencies, pupils and parents and always ensuring confidentiality.
Supporting the teacher in their responsibility for the development and education of young people.
Monitor and evaluate student progress and report back to relevant staff.
To assist in meeting the pupils’ need for encouragement, reassurance and comfort and attend to their personal requirements and physical care whilst always encouraging independence.
To work with individuals or groups of children who are experiencing difficulties with aspects of school or home life.
To establish supportive, caring, and secure relationships with children, and to be available to offer individual support and someone for a child to talk to.
To liaise, and maintain good working relationships with other staff, parents, outside agencies etc as required.
To promote respect, self-esteem and a positive, inclusive ethos for all children and adults throughout the school.
To contribute to monitoring and recording pupils’ progress and providing relevant feedback to teachers.
To provide welfare support to the children, including administering First Aid (dependant on training) and attending to identified medical needs as required.
To assist with general school duties, which may include:
- **Setting up classrooms, preparing resources and displays and tidying and clearing away**:
- Supervision of children during breaks
- Supervision of children entering or leaving school premises

**Support for Students**
- To deliver and support learning to a very small group of children using structured interventions as directed by the Head of Centre.
- To develop an understanding of the special educational needs of the students.
- To take into account students’ special needs and ensure their access to lessons through appropriate clarification, explanations equipment and materials.
- To lead sessions for a small group of students, Deliver short term ELSA (Emotional Literacy) intervention groups.
- To monitor student progress and to develop interventions that support student learning.
- To attend in service training and meetings relevant to the post in order to keep up to date with developments in working with children with special educational needs.
- Provide support and facilitate interaction with peers in the classroom and around school.
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students.
- Support students in learning strategies e.g. literacy and numeracy.
- Support students in using basic ICT.
- Prepare and maintain equipment/resources as directed by the teacher and assist students in their use.
- Assist with the supervision of students out of lessons, I.e. before and after school, during movement breaks and at break times.
