Within UKRI, the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) provides access to world-leading, large-scale facilities through its National Laboratories and Campuses and supports university-based research, innovation and skills development in astronomy, particle physics, nuclear physics, and space science. STFC's Programmes Directorate (PD) is responsible for implementing our science and technology strategy and managing our programme planning, peer review processes and science operations, as well as programmes in education, training, and public outreach. PD also oversees UK’s Membership and Associations with large International Science Facilities and project Collaborations. It has an annual budget of over £500m.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the PD finance business partnering team, providing a comprehensive financial service to the Executive Director and his senior team, requiring high level insight, challenge, and support to deliver outcomes in line with UKRI and STFC priorities. As a member of STFC’s Senior Finance Leadership Team you will contribute to people and process development to maintain excellent finance support to STFC delivery.

**Job description**:
**Key Areas of Accountability**
- Leadership / Teamwork / Collaboration_
- Lead, develop and motivate a team to deliver high standards of service across several complex business areas or programmes
- Take a collegiate approach to leading across the UKRI Finance function
- Develop exceptional collaborative relationships with senior managers and key internal and external stakeholders. This role directly supports Executive Director Programmes and works alongside senior international stakeholders in support of governing UK’s interests in international science facilities
- Lead in providing strategic finance advice, driving value for money, and offering challenges to relevant internal and external senior stakeholders, based on strong business awareness and understanding, to ensure robust financial processes
- As a recognised expert, work closely with senior stakeholders to bring insight and influence on financial matters to aid in establishing strategic priorities, particularly in more complex or high-risk matters
- Represent the Finance function and/or UKRI at relevant Executive meetings, Boards and Committees
- Delivery / Programmes / Projects / Process_
- Responsibility for a range of complex reporting and control functions, positioning Finance to work with the business and link budgets to delivery plans and business cases
- Present insightful information and analysis to support effective strategic decision-making
- Use strong business awareness to support effective longer-term decision-making and deliver outcomes in line with Council/UKRI priorities
- Ownership and accountability for annual and multi-year budget setting cycles
- Accountability and direction in the development of the finance case within business cases, and input and shape the direction of the other cases
- Accountable for ensuring compliance with internal financial, BEIS and HMG controls within assigned business areas
- Accountability and responsibility to produce high-quality reports for Executive meetings, Boards and Committees
- Provide financial support to specific major projects and international collaborations within the PD portfolio and represent STFC/UKRI Finance on relevant project boards and oversight committees

An experienced finance professional with a proven ability to build exceptional collaborative relationships with senior stakeholders. Strong communication skills both written and oral are essential to be able to influence stakeholders with impact and professional credibility. Personally resilient with a confident approach you will demonstrate good judgement to solve issues and find solutions, building effective working partnerships and offering challenges where necessary to senior stakeholder groups. An ability to lead and motivate the team to deliver high standards of service is essential.

- Qualified Accountant (ACA/CIMA/ACCA/CIPFA) or equivalent experience (QBE)
- High level understanding of accounting and finance and demonstrable experience of working in senior finance roles and del
