**Your team**:
The Brands and Media team is home to an exciting market-leading children’s list that includes some of the biggest global brands and authors such as Julia Donaldson, Axel Scheffler, Rod Campbell, The Gruffalo, Tales from Acorn Wood, Moomin, Milly-Molly-Mandy and Sylvanian Families, to name but a few. We publish bestselling books for children aged 0-10 years old, from lift-the-flap books for toddlers, novelty series and picture books for pre-schoolers, and illustrated non-fiction titles for older children.

You will be joining a team of five, working closely with the Publishing Director and Editorial Director to deliver exceptional children’s books in a range of formats for a global audience.

**Your role**:
We are looking for a talented and highly organised editor with at least two years’ experience in children’s illustrated or licensed publishing (for ages 0-10 years) to work on a fixed-term maternity contract.

**Your key responsibilities**:
You will be responsible for the editing and production of titles on the Brands and Media list, working on publishing ranging from beloved classic and literary characters to favourite licensed brands. Working as part of a busy and dynamic team, you will be expected to manage individual book budgets, monitor title progress, liaise with authors and licensors, and maintain strong working relationships with every individual involved in the editorial and production process. This wide-ranging role combines project management and commissioning with excellent editing and proofreading skills.

**Essential experience and knowledge you’ll need to succeed**:

- Have experience of project management, from commissioning through to final files
- Have experience of working closely with Design and Production
- Be highly organised, with the ability to prioritise and manage workflow
- Possess exceptional written skills
- Have an impeccable eye for detail and strong content, copy-editing and proofreading skills
- Be able to manage and meet tight deadlines
- Have a broad understanding of the production process, scheduling and critical path
- Demonstrate understanding of children’s age and development stages and use that
- Knowledge to create outstanding books for pre-schoolers and children at Key Stages 1 and 2
- Have strong numeracy skills and be able to manage invoices and budget effectively for each title
- Possess effective communication skills
- Be self-motivated and highly flexible - happy to move between projects as priorities dictate and manage multiple projects effectively
- Demonstrate an inclusive approach
- Demonstrate knowledge of the contemporary children’s book market.

**Desirable skills we’d love you to have**:

- A good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel etc) and publishing management systems (e.g. Biblio)
- Familiarity with the specific requirements of the creation of novelty books
- Prior experience of working in InDesign
- Familiarity with the specific requirements of licensed publishing and experience working with licensors
