**Overall Purpose of the Job**: A Kitchen Assistant, or Kitchen Porter, assists the Line Cook and Sous Chef. Their primary duties include stocking ingredients, slicing produce, cutting meat into portions and cleaning the kitchen.

**Reports to**: Manager

**Key Activities and Accountabilities**:
**Specific Main Duties**

Cleans or prepares food for cooks by hand or machine;
Carries meat, vegetables and other foodstuffs from delivery van to storeroom and from

storeroom to kitchen

Cleans and tidies service area, kitchen surfaces, crockery, cutlery, glassware, kitchen utensils, and disposes of rubbish

Prepares and serves beverages and light refreshments, accepts payment and gives change

Keeps service area well stocked.

**General Duties**

Washing, peeling and preparing food ingredients

Using equipment such as mixers, special knives and cutters

Reviewing kitchen inventory and determining what items are needed

Unloading fresh supplies and organising the stockroom

Checking sell-by dates and rotating food stock

Cleaning kitchen appliances, ovens, dishes and pans

Observing cooking times and correct temperatures

**Skills**
- Excellent food preparation and cooking techniques
- Ability to use and maintain various stovetops and meat slicers
- Ability to decorate and garnish food
- Ability to wash, peel and cut vegetables
- Ability to prepare a wide range of kitchen ingredients
- Basic knowledge of table service
- Basic knowledge of kitchen hygiene and safety standards
- Attention to detail and interpersonal skills
