Cardiac Physiologist - Band 5

Contract - Permanent

To be a member of a skilled team of Cardiac Physiologists, providing non-invasive cardiac investigations for inpatients and outpatients.

To provide factual reports for all routine investigations under supervision to enable clinical decisions to be made by medical staff regarding patient treatment

Maintain discipline and standards of technical competency in the provision of non-invasive investigative services within the department.

Actively participate towards the smooth day to day running of the department, confirming ECGs, sending reports out to GPs and consultants, answering phone calls.
- To perform and interpret and the recording of electrocardiograms on adults and children
- Application, removal and analysis of ambulatory ECG and BP equipment and confidently generate a comprehensive and accurate report.

- Lead exercise/treadmill testing with supervision from a senior colleague, by preparing patient, accurately recording data and monitoring blood pressure and ECG signals.
- To be fully conversant with the emergency cardiac arrest procedure including defibrillation and maintaining concentration and composure in highly stressful situations.
- Assist senior colleagues with pacemaker follow-up checks.

The Whittington Hospital is situated in a busy vibrant area of North London close to Hampstead Heath and has excellent transport links being served by the Northern Line, London Overground plus several bus routes into central London.

The Cardiology Investigations Unit at Whittington Health is a small busy department offering full non-invasive Cardiology and standard TT Echocardiography services to both paediatric and adult patients. We also run a pacemaker follow up clinic serving the local community. The department currently supports 5 cardiologists. We work closely with the RACPC and heart failure services as well as supporting a wide variety of other disciplines.
1. Record patient diagnostic and management information using manual, and computer based systems.
2. Maintain accurate and legible patient records in line with department SOP
3. Recognise technical/equipment faults and take steps to correct them following the departmental SOP
4. Ensure all equipment is operated safely, cleaned and stored according to department SOP
5. Arrange technical support for repairs and or maintenance when necessary.
6. Assist with day to day administration
7. Deal with patient enquiries over the telephone and in person.
8. Distribute results and reports to GP and Consultants.
9. Maintain adequate stock levels of consumables used within their area, receive and store new stock appropriately
10. Provide training and support to undergraduate trainees, nursing staff and medical students.
11. Assist senior colleagues in the introduction and evaluation of new equipment and technology.
12. Assist senior colleagues in the updating and development of policies relating to their practice.
