The post will be flexibly time-tabled to meet the demands of the service and the timing of sessions may change as the service develops.

A proposed full-time and part-time job plans have been outlined in Appendix 1, but is open to discussion and will be agreed on commencement of appointment.

A minimum allocation of 1.5 SPAs for Supporting Professional Activities. Additional SPAs will be available dependent upon service need. There are additional PAs available for Education and Clinical supervision with 0.25 for first trainee and 0.125 for each subsequent trainee thereafter.

The Trust supports requirements for continuing professional development as laid down by the Royal Colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities. Further SPA activity will be agreed at job planning depending upon service needs (if the appointees were to undertake additional responsibilities in activities such as teaching, training or educational supervision, for example).

Jointly responsible for the provision of older peoples’ mental health services to the elderly population of North Tyneside, approximately 30,000. The post holder will work with managers and professional colleagues in ensuring maximum efficiency of the service.

Manage personal workload in such a way to ensure, where possible, service contract levels are achieved. Participate in the provision of cover on a shared basis with colleagues for periods of annual, sickness and study leave;
Provide continuing clinical responsibility for patients under his/her care and assume responsibility for and facilitate contact from members of staff with delegated duties for personally accountable patient care.

Maintain an awareness and commitment to organisational priorities and ensure these are communicated effectively to colleagues and staff. Engage constructively in debates about organisational issues through a willingness to interact positively with managers - showing mutual respect to ensure a similar level of respect in return.

Demonstrate highly effective communication skills with an ability to influence and negotiate and use influence appropriately within the organisation. Be an approachable team member who is inclusive, co-operative, caring and a good listener who acts appropriately where necessary on what is being said.

Maintain a confident approach without being arrogant and be able to add appropriate pressure to individuals who are underperforming.

The post holder will participate in the provision of inpatients or community older person psychiatric care and will be based principally at North Tyneside Hospital. The post will be part of the Newcastle / North Tyneside Old Age Consultant rota with SPR cover
