A new opportunity has arisen for a Senior Gardener to join our team.

You will support the Grounds Manager and Grounds Supervisor in ensuring the Grounds at the Wellcome Genome Campus are maintained to a high horticultural standard.

**About the Role**:
You will be integral to the ongoing development and improvement of the Campus, in line with the agreed business strategy. In the absence of the Grounds Manager and Grounds Supervisor, you will be the point of contact for the team, Grounds contractors and other teams on site.

You will also supervise Grounds permit work when the Grounds Manager and Grounds Supervisor are away and ensure the Grounds Team are fully compliant with WGC procedures and policies and all Health and Safety measures. You will also assist with the creation of short term work lists

You will take responsibility for specific beds and areas and be able to prioritise tasks

You will provide cover for other gardening staff due to holidays/absence

You will oversee the team's work and liaise with the Grounds Supervisor regularly and feedback progress

You will report Health and Safety issues and to address any within the team

**Essential Skills**:

- Minimum of 2 years experience of Corporate and/or Local Authority Grounds maintenance.
- Good level of grounds maintenance skills. Knowledge of a range of horticultural techniques covering a varied range of plant types. Able to demonstrate sustainable working practices
- Good people skills to build and maintain relationships, both internally and externally.
- A good horticultural and plant knowledge
- Good written and verbal communication skills including recording faults, accidents and near misses accurately
- Practical use of ride on mowers, hedge trimmers, strimmers, scarifiers, push mowers and utility vehicles
- Awareness and training in Health and Safety

Salary in the region of £5,000 to £30,000
