**Protection of Children and Young Persons**

**Purpose and Scope**

This is a busy, demanding role providing professional HR advice, guidance and support to the designated WCG client group. The post will work closely with Directors and managers within the client group to secure the best possible performance from all their staff, in support of the College’s Strategic Aims and the HR Strategy.

Such guidance and support covers the full range of generalist HR matters: terms and conditions of employment; discipline, capability and grievance management; attendance and absence management; and issues associated with statutory and contractual provisions. The role supports line managers in staff planning and the implementation of efficiency exercises, ensuring compliance with legal duties and college policies.

In providing such advice and proactive support, the role will develop line manager’s skills in dealing with the full range of HR matters, as well as developing appropriate solutions to support the business.

The wider HR function includes a generalist HR team, Recruitment, Learning & Development, Payroll and Health & Safety. The function supports WCG across all six College sites and the HR Adviser will support their client group across all sites within the Group.

Our Royal Leamington Spa campus delivers various specialisms from Hair & Beauty to Games Art & Design. As well as these courses we also have an onsite Bistro where some of our students complete their catering courses. **Essential Attainments**:

- Level 5 CIPD qualified (or equivalent), or be working towards.
- Previous and current experience of working to a similar level within a busy, proactive HR function with demonstrable experience of managing a high and varied caseload
- A working knowledge of current employment law and best practice
- Ability to demonstrate experience of dealing with complex employee relations issues, including discipline, grievance, performance, absence management and change management.
- Ability to demonstrate experience of providing guidance and advice to line managers on a range of HR issues in a way which has successfully delivered positive business outcomes.
- Ability to demonstrate experience of providing a generalist HR service and supporting change management projects (including TUPE, restructuring and redundancy)
- Experience in the use of a computerised HR system and to have good IT Skills
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines and within demanding timeframes
- Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically to all of our customers, which includes members of staff, senior post holders and the general public

**Essential Skills and Knowledge**:

- Display an excellent telephone manner and flair for high levels of customer service.
- Ability to demonstrate a pro-active approach to supporting the business need.
- Commitment to Equality & Diversity practice, able to demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of Equality and Diversity
- Previous experience of managing or supervising staff would be an advantage.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
- Ability to demonstrate behaviours which support the Core Values of the College.
