**Title**: Visitor Services Assistant

**Responsible to**: Museum Director

**Job summary**: The Visitor Services Assistant on reception is responsible for the warm welcome visitors get to the museum, helping them to have an enjoyable and interesting visit in a safe environment. Working in a team of two, you will take admission money, assist visitors, help stock shelves and sell in the shop, and provide refreshments in the café with the assistance of a volunteer or other staff. You will answer telephone calls, and be responsible for following fire safety and other museum procedures. Weekend workers will be keyholders.

**Working pattern**: the contract is for one regular day a week (Sunday.) Working hours are from 10am - 4-45pm. The museum is open to the public from 10.30 to 4.30.

**Duties**:

- Greet visitors warmly, offer suggestions for their visit, taking admission fees through the till and relaying the route
- Conduct shop sales in response to visitor interest
- Answer telephone
- Provide samples of cider (adults only)
- Maintain stock levels and order additional supplies as and when required, keeping shelves tidy, clean and full in quieter periods
- Check deliveries and notify supplier of any discrepancies immediately
- Price goods up as per instruction
- Make beverages in the tearoom and serve cake as requested. (Food hygiene training given.)
- Prior to opening: check galleries and cellars for trip hazards, faulty light bulbs, broken bottles etc.
- Checks emergency fire exits are clear and other procedures are followed
- Be familiar with the emergency evacuation procedures for the building and be prepared to act as Fire Warden when required. Training will be given.
- Check cash float at the beginning and end of each day
- Count and reconcile daily takings
- Ensure all external doors and windows are locked and intruder alarms set before leaving the building if you are the last to leave.
- Attend staff meetings when required

- Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Trust

**Person Specification**
- **Education**_

**Essential**: 5 GCSE’s including maths and English

Basic Food Hygiene Certificate, or willingness to undergo training to achieve this.
- **Experience**:_

**Essential**: you have worked or volunteered in a customer service focused environment

You have experience of using a till

You have or would like to develop an interest in the work of museums/history

**Desirable**: you have worked or volunteered in a heritage environment.

You have or would like to develop an interest in craft cider.
- **Skills**_

**Essential**:excellent interpersonal skills, you are confident in communicating with a wide range of individuals

**Personal qualities**

You are methodical and have good attention to detail.

You are self-motivated with an ability to work under pressure

You are happy to be a supportive member of a team working together to give the best visitor experience we can, with an awareness of the importance of being inclusive and welcoming to all.

**Salary & terms and conditions of employment**

£10.52 per hour

Payment of salary: Monthly by BACS

Annual leave: 36 hours and 30 minutes

Probation period: 1 month

Notice period after the successful completion of the probationary period will be 2 weeks by either side.
