Corporate Governance Officer

To interpret national policy to support the development and implementation of the Trust’s Membership Strategy, Membership Recruitment Plan and Membership Communication Plans.
Provides advice and support to Trust committees, working groups and other bodies as may be assigned.
Liaise with NHS Providers Membership Network to ensure the Trust remains up to date and aligned with national developments.
Responsible for the delivery of membership function of the Trust, including the delivery of a membership strategy and the implementation of engagement plans.
Develop and maintain the continuing work plan for the Membership Recruitment and Engagement Working Group to facilitate and support the development and implementation of an effective membership recruitment and engagement strategy.
Responsible for the election processes for public, patient and staff representatives to the Council of Governors, including ensuring statutory and constitutional requirements are met in the conduct of contested and non-contested elections.
Be the first and main point of contact for circa 10,000 Trust Members and all service users, carers or members of the general public and Governors.

This is a new role reporting to the Head of Corporate Governance. You will work with the Corporate Governance team to manage the governance and membership elements require for a Foundation Trust.
You will have excellent listening and interpersonal skills and will be a strong communicator. You will also be able to demonstrate high standards of tact, diplomacy and integrity in your work.

Use advanced communication skills to communicate complex and sensitive information in situations which may be contentious or hostile.
Be responsible for identifying and building joint working opportunities for Trust Membership and strategy within the Integrated Care Board (ICB)
Be responsible for supplier relationships with the Membership Database host and the Returning Officer and ensure that value for money is obtained from contracting arrangements.
Develop member surveys, run member focus groups; source and arrange membership clinical information events.
Analyse the demographics of the membership, compare and contrast with National Census and other available information. Utilising these data extracts from a number of sources to interrogate the membership data and establish the demographics of Trust membership, ensuring they are representative of our local population.
Give opinion and course of action to the Trust on where the membership data is in conflict to that of the Membership and Governor Engagement Strategy action plans.
Prepare appropriate data extracts for specific member groups as required by the Trust, for any activities being undertaken by the Trust such as consultation on key areas of interest identified, targeted communications etc.
Work with the Head of Corporate Governance to co-ordinate the induction and ongoing training and development for Council of Governors.
Develop and manage a comprehensive support service to Governors.
Develop and oversee the operation of a membership database ensuring that data is accurate, secure compliant with all relevant legislation and reflects the Trust’s Constitution.
Be the main point of contact for the Council of Governors.
Produce the Membership Report for Governors to present to Trust Members and the general public at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and support relevant governors in presenting their report.
Developing and implementing plans to deliver the membership engagement and development strategy. This will require good project management skills and attention to detail as well as creative thinking and a solutions driven and engagement focussed approach. This work will involve monitoring membership numbers to determine where there may be gaps, and creating a diverse programme of events/outreach activities. Exploring the possibilities for working closely and delivering events with the Community Engagement, communications and volunteering teams and ensuring that Governors are involved with this.
Develop and participate in initiatives for joint working with other Foundation Trusts and the Foundation Trust Network and effectively represent the Trust.
Represent the Trust in membership recruitment campaigns with external stakeholders, public and patient groups and at exhibitions and recruitment events in the community.
Provide general, non-clinical advice to patients/clients/relatives who are members of the Trust, giving advice on a range of issues including the complaints procedure, service information, membership information and Governor election processes.
Promote the Trust positively to members and work with the Communications Team to encourage membership
