**POST/TITLE: SENIOR CARE ASSISTANT**
**Hours of Duty**:Variable by mutual agreement. It will be necessary to carry out some of the duties in evenings and weekends and it will include some sleep‑in duties on call.
**MAIN PURPOSES OF POST**
- A Senior Care Assistant will be responsible to the Officer‑in‑Charge and under his/her supervision will be expected to assist in all aspects of the work to ensure the smooth running of the Home.
- A Senior Care Assistant will be expected to substitute for the Officer‑in‑Charge (or
senior person if applicable) on all occasions when he/she is absent.
**REPORTS TO: Officer‑in‑Charge**
**RESPONSIBLE FOR: Care Assistants, Domestic and Ancillary Staff**.
**MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- The Post‑holder must at all times carry out their duties and responsibilities with due
regard to the Client and Proprietor's wishes.
**STAFF MANAGEMENT**
- To be responsible for giving professional supervision to all staff in the home.
- To ensure that all Staff receive adequate induction and are aware of their duties.
- To ensure that regular Staff meetings are held.
- To give advice, assistance, guidance and support to Staff as appropriate.
- To be responsible for adequate Staff cover at all times Within the Home.
- To ensure that all Staff have access to appropriate training courses.
- To be fully involved with the Officer‑in‑Charge (or senior person), in the assessment of new Staff.
- To ensure that all staff are aware of fire, health and safety procedures.
- To assist with the organising of daily work.
- To ensure all work is completed before end of shift.
- To hand‑over to next shift and inform of any problems.
**CLIENTS**
- To ensure that all Clients are involved in decision making and running of the Home.
- To assist with regular review of Clients.
- To assist with admission and discharge procedures for all Clients.
- To ensure that accurate and regular records are kept on all Clients and that access to these are available to Clients, Staff and Proprietor.
- To assist the Officer‑in‑Charge, with the assessment of new Clients.
- To ensure Clients are comfortable at all times.
- Show Clients around the Home in the absence of senior person.
**DUTIES**
- To assist with the management and administration of the Home.
- To liase with the Officer‑in‑Charge (or senior person) in the effective use of clerical/administrative support.
- To attend and participate in monthly management meetings with the Proprietor.
- To assist With Resident meetings.
- To administer drugs.
- Refer any complaints that cannot be dealt with, to the Management.
- To inform Management of matters of dispute or discipline.
- To delegate work as appropriate.
**OTHERS**
- To work on shift including sleep‑in and on‑call as necessary.
- To be responsible for fabric, equipment and security of Home.
- To ensure the safe administration of medication according to the local Council's policy ensuring that appropriate records are kept.
- To act as Health and Safety at Work Representative.
**Salary**: £11.40 per hour
