Ophthalmology Clinical Fellow

The department has 14 consultant ophthalmologists covering all subspecialties. There are 6 specialist registrars, 2 Associate Specialist, 2 Specialty Doctors, 5 optometrists and nurse specialists. The department has a culture of teaching in a friendly, professional environment. There is a regular staff opinion meeting and a monthly joint ophthalmic and neuroradiology meeting and a monthly departmental clinical governance /audit meeting.

There is regular teaching in surgical retina, general ophthalmology and evening events in medical retina and glaucoma. The Eye Department is a self-contained part of the Royal Bournemouth Hospital over 2 floors, with dedicated in patient, day case and paediatric eye wards, and three fully equipped intraocular theatres and one oculoplastic theatre. In addition there is a wet lab for simulated ocular surgery with practice eyes and the EyeSi cataract simulator available during and outside of office hours located within the Eye Unit. There is a modern ophthalmic outpatient facility, a dedicated eye accident and emergency department, and orthoptic department and minor ops suite.

The Eye Unit is fully equipped with 4 Humphrey field analysers, OCT, HRT and RNFL analysers, pentacam, SLT, Argon, YAG and multisport lasers. Dorset is a highly desirable location with a continental European climate. It has areas of outstanding natural beauty including the New Forest and the cleanest beaches in Europe facilitating water sports and other outdoor recreational activities.
