To ensure professional and technical standards are maintained at all times using a high level of specialist knowledge in line with local, regional and national guidelines where appropriate. Under the supervision of a qualified sonographer, perform a range of ultrasound examinations and prepare a report on the clinical findings of the scan in accordance with departmental protocols. To interpret obstetric ultrasound images in order to establish a diagnosis, influencing patient management and treatment including accurate dating based on foetal ultrasound measurements. To contribute to the provision of a screening service to detect foetal anomalies, monitor growth in the at risk foetus and to liaise directly with the obstetric clinician or midwife where appropriate.

To ensure imaging procedures are carried out in accordance with mandatory departmental systems of work and protocols. To adapt technique to the condition of the patient and level of co-operation. To actively maintain and develop high standards of patient care, maintaining patient dignity during examinations of an intimate nature. To audit and evaluate own practice with peers, work within and contribute to the multi-disciplinary team.

To play an active role in the implementation and development of quality assurance programmes including departmental audit and clinical governance activities, collecting data when required. Comply with manual handling guidelines and risk assessments when moving or assisting patients. To assist in the documentation of risk assessments and risk issues identified with the department. Support service developments, the advancement of staff and skills and undertake reflective, evaluation of practice.
