We are recruiting for our brand-new role of Village Steward to aid with the maintenance of land within the local villages, build and maintain local relationships and be a diligent custodian of the Estate.
**Your role**
- Joining our existing Estate team, this role will play a huge part in our engagement with our local communities. You will:
- Improve and maintain the appearance of all Estate owned assets within our neighbouring villages - including maintaining footpaths, verges, drains and ponds and reporting concerns to relevant people within the Estate.
- Help improve interaction and relations with local communities, conversing on a daily basis and acting as an ambassador for the Estate
**Skills and Experience needed**
- Ability to work independently, taking initiative when needed and paying close attention to details
- A confident communicator who enjoys the opportunity to meet new people, strike up a rapport with neighbours and build positive relationships.
- Experience of landscape maintenance tasks including grass cutting, strimming, weeding, clearance etc.
- Full and clean UK driving license.
- PA1 & PA6 certificates desirable.
- Trailer licence desirable
- Basic machinery maintenance knowledge

**Who are we? - The Newt in Somerset**
The Newt in Somerset is a large working estate and visitor attraction situated in South East Somerset, nestled amongst the towns of Castle Cary and Bruton as well as the smaller neighbouring villages of Shepton Montague, Yarlington, Galhampton and Hadspen. At the middle of the Estate is a popular hotel and visitor garden. Surrounding this is an expanding and busy livestock farm as well as several residential and commercial letting properties. It is these latter elements of the Estate that interact most with our neighbouring villages and local people.
