As we continue to grow, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Tax Trainee to join the team in our Basingstoke office. This Trainee position is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or a school leaver with good analytical, problem solving and IT skills. You will also have an eye for detail. The role will suit someone with strong academics and who is very organised and able to manage their time to meet tight deadlines. You will need to have great communication skills, a willingness to learn and a desire to deliver exceptional client service.

**The Role**

You will support the tax team whilst developing a sound knowledge of personal and business taxation and work management skills. You will be provided with plenty of on the job training along with a study package to take the ATT qualification if you are interested in a long-term career in personal tax.

Your core responsibilities will include:

- Building productive working relationships within Shaw Gibbs and with clients as required
- Maintaining client confidentiality and data security at all times
- Assisting in the preparation of basic personal tax computations and returns using software and liaising with clients to obtain all the necessary information
- Assisting with various tax compliance projects
- Drafting income and expenditure accounts and rental accounts for review
- Liaising with HM Revenue & Customs on personal tax matters on behalf of clients
- Keeping clients up to date with progress on their tax compliance, advising them of deadlines and payment amounts
- Supporting the team with admin tasks

**About You**

We would like to hear from you if you are a quick learner and can tick all of the below:

- Are educated to A ‘Level (or equivalent standard) or higher e.g. degree
- If you are a school leaver - you must have a minimum of 3 A Levels at grades B, B, C
- Fully fluent in English (verbal and written) with strong communication skills
- Strong IT skills, specifically Excel and able to pick up new IT packages very quickly
- Great attention to detail
- Create a positive impression with clients and staff
- Able to prioritise and meet tight timeframes with high quality output
- Enjoy working as part of a team
- A confident and proactive attitude
- Able to work within procedures on job aspects which will deal with facts, standards and quality
- Relevant work experience would be great but not essential
