This position is key to the Club’s efficiency and profitability. It is a front of house role that requires the individual to work well both pro-actively and reactively. The incumbent needs to demonstrate strong commercial awareness together with an ability to build relationships quickly and effectively with staff, the Committee and Club members. A naturally extrovert, high-energy individual, able to lead people, motivate others and possess a grasp of the economics of running a bar is ideal.

The role involves a high level of authority to make decisions, with a responsibility to report to the Committee via the Secretary and to perform duties other than those set out below should the need arise.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**

.Establish a clear physical presence, interacting with members from both sides of the bar, aiming to ensure they receive a high standard of service and enjoyable experience.

.Set a good example for staff in terms of punctuality, attendance, attitude, suitable appearance/dress code and health & safety.

.To deal with staffing niggles promptly, out of earshot of members/guests, reporting any serious misconduct to the committee if appropriate.

.Conduct staff training in relation to their roles and health & safety issues.

.Manage staff schedules/rotas to ensure appropriate levels of cover as efficiently/economically as possible.

.Manage the cellar, including line cleaning, stock management/ordering, stock rotation, ensuring wet and dry stock is checked in accurately with the relevant invoices.

.Use your experience to try to maintain or expand wet and dry sales, reviewing range of drinks periodically.

.Carry out price checks and negotiate deals with suppliers where necessary.

.Keep abreast of current laws/regulations regarding health & safety and food hygiene, advising the committee if the club’s current policies require updating.

.Ensure open and accurate communication with staff, including advice on non-availability of stock where necessary.

.Keep accurate records of cash flow and ensure that money is handled/stored appropriately to minimise the risk of theft.
- Real Ale knowledge and experience is essential.
