Junior Sister

Working as a Junior Sister /Junior Charge Nurse on Althorp Ward, the post holder will assist in the overall management of the service ensuring delivery of high standards of care to patients and their families/carers within the ward. They will act as a clinical role model, setting and upholding agreed clinical standards and enabling patients to receive high quality, evidenced based care.
The post holder will also be expected to coordinate the ward and contribute to teaching, assessing, and supporting staff and students. They will provide leadership and support to both nursing and multidisciplinary team ensuring the promotion of a safe working environment. The post holder will be an advocate for compliance with Trust values, policies and providing the Best Possible Care.
You will be an experienced Band 5 or existing Band 6 who can demonstrate sound leadership skills and experience managing a Nursing Team. You will have a keen interest in Surgical Nursing as well as in looking after Head and Neck.
Supporting Clinical Excellence
Take responsibility for the management and organisation of the clinical area when on duty.
Participates as an active member of the nursing team, accountable for your practice and role modelling the highest standards of care to all members of the team.
Assists in leading the team in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care of patients admitted to the ward / department in accordance with Trust and directorate pathways.
Acts as a senior support for staff with recognition and implementation of care for changes in the patient condition.
Has in-depth knowledge of infection control policies, with practical experience and principles in relation to the clinical environment, patient care, the prevention of cross infection, outbreak management, good hand hygiene and environmental cleaning.
Undertake the Trust Corporate and Directorate specific development and competency programmes.
Undertake any expanded roles deemed necessary following the Trusts’ policy ‘Expansion of Professional Practice for Registered Healthcare Practitioners’.
Responsible for the safe supply, storage, administration, checking and disposal of medications including controlled drugs.

They will be a visible presence for all patients and visitors to the area and provide a pivotal role for inter-professional working.

Responsible for assisting with the management and leadership of a designated ward maintaining an appropriate management style that maintains good morale, a team approach to work and a culture which fosters innovation and change.
Sets high standards of nursing care for the ward, including ward cleanliness, nutrition etc., are maintained so that the patients experience is excellent.
Represents the team and organisation at professional meetings as requested and feeds back information appropriately.
