Line managed and supported by motivated and experienced local managers, the role of an Open Access (Youth), Early Help Worker is to be part of a team providing help and guidance to young people and their families.

As an Early Help Worker based at Swale Youth Zone, the majority of your day time hours will be involved in supporting families, children and young people to gain the skills, information and support they need to move forward with their lives and recording your work appropriately. With the ability to create a rapport and build relationships, you will be able to gather and interpret information from a range of sources, using it effectively to ensure a proactive as well as responsive service. This will be done by creativity, good communication and good general organisation skills.

Additionally, you will be required to deliver high quality, effective services encouraging children, young people, and families to get involved in activities. This will be done through a mixture of three sessions consisting of two twilight (afternoon/evening) and one evening session or vice versa. These sessions may be Building Based, Detached or Outreach and involve delivery of Duke of Edinburgh or Group Work as well as more generic 'open youth club' sessions. Once or twice a year you may be asked to take part in overnight or residential activities with young people.

Alongside having a Level 3 Diploma (or equivalent) in Youth Work, Childcare, Health and Social Care or a relevant field, or evidence of experience of working with vulnerable children, young people, and families, you will need to demonstrate your experience or willingness to lead the delivery of these sessions.

This post is multifunctional, so often requires daytime and evening work on the same day, as a result, flexibility, and the ability to organise your diary appropriately is essential as is a positive young person-centered approach, the ability to work as part of a team as well as on your own initiative and a practical understanding of multi-agency work. You will have a working knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection, relevant legislation, and regulatory frameworks. You will also be prepared to work in new ways, be willing to learn, work collaboratively to innovate and find new solutions, whilst taking personal and professional responsibility for your actions and performance.

An induction program will be provided as is on-going training to support your development needs.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
