Our Community Eating Disorder (ED) Services are undergoing transformation, and we’re pleased to be recruiting psychological therapists to join us in realising our long-term vision for a single service for adults with eating disorders across Coventry and Warwickshire.

Due to this, we are significantly increasing the capacity of our ED services to provide assessment and treatment for patients and their carers in Coventry and Warwickshire.

In this exciting role, you will initially join the existing Coventry Eating Disorder Service (CEDS) as a clinical or counselling psychologist providing assessment and treatment for people with mild to moderate eating disorders. The role is offered full-time and there are opportunities for flexible and hybrid working. As we transform services you will then be given the opportunity to work across our eating disorder pathways.

Our current team have an international reputation for the treatment of people with an eating disorder, and there will be opportunities to work with colleagues in other local ED services to develop your knowledge and skills in working with clients transitioning between services.

This post primarily involves psychological assessment, including assessment and monitoring of risk, formulating and care planning and delivering group-based Compassion Focused Therapy. Training and supervision for this model will be provided.

You’ll provide consultancy, supervision, teaching and training to the Eating Disorder MDT and to other staff in mental health services. They will also be supported to actively contribute to service audit/evaluation and research including guidance and supervision on relevant projects.

We believe that professional development is key to training our team. This includes Health Education England training in ED models and regular clinical supervision to support your practice and develop your skills. You will have the opportunity to develop, supervise and contribute to research and publication. You will also have the support of our Assistant and Voluntary Assistant Psychologists to support you in this work.

- To have undertaken a recognised qualification and to be appropriately regulated in one of the core mental health professions e.g. nursing, social work, psychology and occupational therapy,orsubstantial previous experience as an NHS psychotherapist.
- Qualification in a recognised psychological therapy, to master’s level or equivalent.
- Ability to provide Compassion Focused psychological therapy to people with eating disorders.
- Well developed knowledge and skill in multi-disciplinary team working with complex clients.
- Ability to manage and have good insight into the personal emotional impact of working with unpredictable levels of high emotional distress and psychological trauma amongst the client group being served.
- Ability to maintain a calm and professional stance in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the potential threat of physical violence.
- Well developed skills in effective communication of highly technical or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and professional colleagues both within and outside of the NHS
- Knowledge of legislation and policy as it effects this client group
- Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional groups and non-professional groups. This includes the capacity to sensitively advise, support, educate and mentor
