**Job Purpose**

YMCA Basingstoke is located in Basingstoke town centre and is a purpose-built housing facility accommodating 83 people aged 18-35, supporting them to live independently. As a key member of the Youth Engagement Team working at Basingstoke this post will work alongside the Community Manager to deliver evidenced-based and youth-focused programmes to residents and the wider Basingstoke Community.

**Main Duties & Responsibilities**
- At all times work within the YMCA Way.
- Develop, promote and deliver engaging and relevant cooking activities and programmes on a daily basis to young people.
- Support, mentor, coach and ‘walk alongside’ individuals in their pursuit of independence and community cohesion.
- Develop cooking & healthy eating programmes to promote independence.
- Engage third parties to deliver food & nutrition activities to young people.
- To ensure that the kitchen is kept in a suitable condition and flowing all food & hygiene rules & laws.
- To act as an advocate for young people and to engage partner agencies and services appropriate to the young people’s needs.
- Undertake risk assessments and support planning interviews with new residents.
- Facilitate the booking and delivery of community-based programmes.
- Undertake risk assessments and support planning with young people.
- A willingness to work to a rota system including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
- Act in the interests of your own safety & the safety of others at all times.
- Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene, timekeeping, cleanliness and neatness.
- Undertake training and professional development.
- Anything else reasonably requested by the management of the charity.

**Person Specification & Key Competencies**

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Demonstrable experience of programme delivery in youth, adult or community-based service
- An ability and willingness to relate positively to young people, visitors and staff
- An outgoing and friendly personality, able to communicate well and engage a wide range of people
- Ability to react positively and effectively when faced with unwanted high-risk behaviours from young people, whether targeted towards themselves, staff, visitors or other young people.
- Good level of IT proficiency.
- Knowledge of housing support services and processes.
- An understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures
- An understanding of the issues facing young people
- An understanding of equality and diversity matters.

- A genuine enthusiasm for the work of the charity.
- An outgoing and friendly personality, able to communicate well and engage positively with a wide range of people including with young people, visitors and staff.
- The ability to motivate and inspire others
