**Job summary**:
Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. We inspect and regulate services that care for children and young people, and services providing education and skills for learners of all ages. Every week, we carry out hundreds of inspections and regulatory visits throughout England and publish the results online. We also report on standards across the country and are accountable directly to Parliament. Ofsted’s inspections are independent and impartial.

External affairs provides oversight of Ofsted’s stakeholder relationships with parent groups, representative bodies, Parliamentarians and others. We work across strategic communications, parliamentary affairs, engagement and correspondence to boost Ofsted's brand and develop two-way communication with a range of audiences. Our work - and that of the wider communications team - is informed by rigorous insight and evaluation of everything we do.

The Editor reports to the Chief Editor. They are responsible for templating, formatting, editing and proofreading documents on time and to a high standard. They champion the house style, liaise with and advise authors, prepare final content and assist with the team’s general work and responsibilities.

**Job description**:
The key responsibilities of the role are outlined below. However, this is an overview of the role and is not exhaustive. Ofsted reserves the right to assign other duties appropriate to the **B2 APT** grade as required.
- Providing a high-quality copy editing and proofreading service. Preparing a wide range of documents and products for publishing.
- Being a point of contact for enquiries concerning use of Ofsted's brand and logo, including advising external stakeholders on brand and logo use. Giving robust advice to senior colleagues to ensure that all style, accessibility and brand issues are adhered to across all of Ofsted's publications.
- Working as an advocate for clear writing, assisting with the ‘Clearly Ofsted’ clear writing campaign and encouraging colleagues across the organisation to engage with this.
- Assisting with the production of designed or printed materials.
- Assisting with the upkeep of Ofsted’s style guide and glossary, ensuring that these are responsive and include current and correct terminology.
- Working collaboratively with teams across Ofsted, providing editorial advice and support as they work on research reports, policies, the Annual Report and guidance pages.
