**Job Title**:NCL Health Equity Mentor
**Commitment**: 26 sessions over a 6-month period/ 1 session or 4 hours per week
**Remuneration: GP - **£289 per session (gross pay)

**Accountable to**:North Central London (NCL) Training Hub Network Programme Director
**Responsible to**:Islington Training Hub Programme Manager and Clinical Lead
**Location**:This role will be a combination of remote working and remote and/or in-person meetings hosted at various locations across North Central London Training Hubs.
**Job summary**
Applicants will benefit from experience as an educator or supervisor in primary care for the understanding of the system that is needed in this role. They should be passionate about working with individuals and teams to understand and improve health equity and have experience relevant to this area of work. They will be organised and able to work flexibly with a wide range of stakeholders from across the health and social care system.
**Background**
**Health Equity and Primary Care Networks**
Tackling health inequalities formed a core part of the NHS Long Term Plan (2019), and is a cornerstone of current health and social care improvement objectives. The introduction of Primary Care Networks (PCNs) along with Integrated Care Systems (ICS) is enabling local communities to interpret national guidance and tailor interventions specific to local needs. All PCNs are required to identify a named Health Inequalities Lead, and work towards the meaningful reduction of health inequalities at a local level using specific and measurable objectives.
**NCL Training Hub’s Education Faculty and Fellowship Programme**
NCL Training Hub is made up of five borough-based hubs in Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington. They work collaboratively across the Integrated Care System (ICS) footprint and across professional and organisational boundaries. By forming effective networks, they can develop innovative education and workforce initiatives for Primary, Community and Social Care. Core funding is from Health Education England, but Training Hubs also receive extra commissions from NHS England & Improvement, Local Authorities and North Central London Integrated Care System (ICS).
One area of work for the NCL Training Hub is to establish an **Education Faculty**, which will support a diverse network of multi-professional educators. Our team will help the post holder understand how they relate to:
- Faculty Programme Directors: There is (at least) one for each borough. They are collectively designing training and then locally leading multi-professional educator groups where they cascade their content with a Train-The-Trainer (TTT) approach. The Faculty Programme Directors meet every two weeks, and the post holder will be able to join this meeting as needed for expert educator input into planned Health Equity training events.
Another Training Hub workstream includes our **Fellowship Programme**. This involves portfolio experiences for newly qualified GPs and new to Primary Care Nurses with educational and pastoral systems for support. Newly qualified is defined as within two years of qualification and general practice nurses are also eligible in their first year of moving to primary care from secondary care. The main components of the fellowship for our fellows are:
- Sessional roles in primary care: GPs and nurses must take up a substantive salaried role in NCL (of at least four sessions per week), and should expect to negotiate release for fellowship activities with their practices (with the support of their local borough training hub if needed)
- Project / Portfolio role: Projects are developed by the wider NCL team and local Training Hubs and once established the Health Equity Mentor and COP will help inform this process.
**Main Responsibilities and Deliverables**
The experience the successful applicant gains as a mentor, a developer of educational material and a leader in the health equity COP will all augment and support each other
**1.** **Individual and group mentoring for NCL Health Inequality Fellows**
a. Initially one fellow per borough (5 total) for group mentoring plus extra individual sessions if required
b. Initially GPs with maybe some nurses and expected to become increasingly multi-professional over time
2. **Develop and deliver educational content with a speciality focus on understanding and reducing health inequalities**
a. The successful applicant will network with a broad range of stakeholders (largely by being a proactive member of the Health Inequalities COP) bringing together ideas and objectives from different disciplines and teams and translating them into deliverable educational content.
