The Peggy Dodd Centre has built a reputation for providing high quality care and a stimulating environment for those living with Dementia and memory loss. We are looking for someone to plan and lead, fun positive activities that improve the wellbeing of the clients.

**Job Description for Day Care Assistant**

**Job Title**

Day Care Assistant

35 per week, over five days, Monday to Friday

8.45am-3.45pm (Plus overtime for transport available)

**Salary**

Gr Rate of pay £10.50 to 11.50 per hour depending on experience

£19,550 - £20,993 per annum actual for 35 hours

Plus a non-contributory pension scheme.

**General**

To work with Day Centre Manager, Assistant Manager, Senior and Day Care Assistants and volunteers in the Care team.

The Day Centre is open Monday to Friday inclusive and the job requires attendance on all five days.

**Responsibilities**

To co-operate fully with the Day Centre Manager, so that they older people using the Centre are given maximum help and encouragement to fulfil their potential for independent living and enjoyment of life.

**Working relationships**

Reports to the Day Centre Manager, Assistant Manager or Senior.

Working closely with
- Other Day Care Assistants
- Volunteers
- Families and friends of people using the Centre
- Other professionals and agencies
- Trustees (as and when required).

**Specific Responsibilities**

**1.Standards of Care**

In conjunction with the Day Centre Manager and Assistant Manager, to ensure the high standards of client care are achieved. This will involve attention to the following and discussion with other team members as appropriate:

- **Ensuring the safety of clients at all times.**:

- Assisting the clients with personal care tasks (toileting and bathing) when required
- Reporting accidents (whether to clients or to staff members) to the Day Centre Manager or Assistant Manager without delay.
- Reporting any significant changes in clients’ behaviour to the Day Centre Manager/Assistant Manager
- Completing Client Progress records.
- Ensuring that all clients are kept stimulated throughout the day.
- At all times showing understanding of, and empathy with, clients.
- At all times promote and ensure a high standard of dementia care and the positive reputation of the Centre.
- Maintaining client communication records.

To be responsible for any duties or activities as directed by the Day Centre Manager.

**2. Providing a stimulating environment**

To work with the team to create a stimulating and deliver an activity programme to enhance the quality of life for each client in the Centre.

2.1 Plan and lead activities.

2.2 Encouraging clients to meet the challenge of new tasks and to experience a sense of achievement

2.3 Lead tasks and activities as delegated by the management team

2.4 Assist in the promotion of strategies to improve stimulation

**3. General cleanliness and tidiness of the Centre**

The Day Care assistant is expected to co-operate with other members of the Team to ensure that the Centre is kept in a clean and tidy condition.

All Day Care Assistants are expected to complete the daily cleaning tasks detailed on the cleaning rota.

**4. Transport for clients at the start and end of the day**

The Day Centre arranges for minibuses to collect clients from and return them to their homes. Day Care Assistants, as escorts, are required to assist in this service as required by the Day Centre Manager/Assistant Manager, on a rota basis. Some overtime arises in carrying out this duty.

In the event that cover is needed you may be required to cover additional transport.

Experience
- Comprehensive experience (2 years) in a relevant social care setting.
- Working with people who present challenge
- Experience in dementia care

**Qualifications**:

- Relevant Level 2 Diploma/NVQ in Health and Social Care
