**Job Title**:Chief Officer

**Responsible to**:Chair and Board of Trustees

**Location**:Minster Court, Hugden Way, Norton, Malton

**Salary: £36,500 per annum pro-rata based on 30 hours per week**

**Job purpose**:
Provide leadership, direction and management of Ryedale Community Transport Charity.

The Chief Officer ensures the Charity delivers its mission strategies and charitable objectives as determined by the Board of Trustees.

Take prime responsibility for developing strong, trusted and long-lasting relationships with donors and other key stakeholders, including local councils, thereby ensuring the development and delivery of the Charity's agreed business.

The Chief Officer ensures that the team is cohesive and motivated and that all activity is undertaken in accordance with current national and local legislation policies, procedures and any Charity Commission guidance.

**Strategy, planning and governance.**

Provide strategic vision and leadership to the operation and development of Ryedale Community Transport within the direction set by the Board of Trustees.

Lead on the evolvement of Ryedale Community Transport’s business plans in order to develop the objectives and priorities of the Charity, in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, to present to the Board of Trustees plans that are ambitious, yet realistic and adequately resourced.

Work with the Chair to further develop the Board of Trustees as an effective, cohesive and engaged team thereby enabling them to fulfil their legal and other responsibilities for the proper governance of Ryedale Community Transport.

Ensure that the Board of Trustees receives advice, recommendations and information in an effective, thorough and timely manner.

Ensure that all activity is undertaken in accordance with current national and local legislation, policies, procedures and any Charity Commission guidance.

Ensure that full, timely and accurate reporting is made to the Charity Commission.

**Leadership and management**

Work with the Senior Team to ensure inclusive and effective leadership and that development support is in place to sustain a positive culture where people are valued and supported to work effectively.

Manage staff and resources ensuring that key targets are achieved and staff and volunteers remain focused on service delivery in accordance with our charitable aims and objectives.

Together with the Finance and Administrative Officers ensure that appropriate financial plans and budget monitoring are in place to enable the Board of Trustees and Senior Team to effectively set and monitor budgets.

Take appropriate steps to manage risks that could impact significantly on Ryedale Community Transport.

Ensure in-house compliance with current legislation governing employment law and safety at work for employees and volunteers.

Ensure that the organisation has the right management systems and structures in place to carry out its work effectively, accountably and safely, and that professional standards are met.

**Raising Funds**

Build relationships with a range of potential funders and, together with the Senior Team, shape and write bids.

Research, identify and develop new fundraising opportunities and areas of potential financial support.

Explore contractual opportunities which are within the charitable objectives of the Charity.

Work with North Yorkshire County authorities to develop and enhance the role of Ryedale Community Transport within the community in delivering transport solutions for residents.

Work alongside other Charities and Community Groups.

**Communication**

Act as the ambassador and media point of contact for Ryedale Community Transport.

Coordinate the promotion and messaging of the Charity's activities through public and social media.

Coordinate the promotion and messaging of the Charity's activities at local meetings and events.

**Person Specification**

**Experience and knowledge**
- Proven experience in developing organisational strategy to achieve long term objectives and business plans. Essential.
- Experience of working effectively with an accountable body e.g. a Board as part of a Senior Management team, including Non-Executive Directors or Trustees. Essential.
- Experience of leading, developing and motivating a team to deliver high levels of organisational performance, plus a track record of delivering against personal targets and objectives. Essential.
- A track record in business development and building relationships. Essential
- Financial literacy and experience of managing budgets. Essential.
- An understanding and commitment to the voluntary sector and familiarity with grant making. Essential.
- Successfully attracting funding in the private, charity or public sectors. Desirable.
- Knowledge of the legal environment - Charity Law, GDPR and professional codes and standards. Desirable.
