We are looking for an Ophthalmic Assistant/Theatre Runner to join our Newmedica Shrewsbury site. This will be full time role, working 40 hours over 5/7 days per week. Sometimes there will be a weekend working required.

**Essential job responsibilities included but not limited to**:
- Accurately document and record Patient history.
- Perform a variety of routine tests using ophthalmic instruments that provide diagnostic information including, but not limited to, intraocular pressures, visual acuity, and OCT/fundus photography and biometry.
- Administer topical medications as required by the provider for testing, treatment and surgery.
- Prepare and position patient for diagnostic tests and procedures.
- Performing, verifying and recording results of clinical testing with absolute integrity.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and patient data at ALL times.
- Assist in educating patients pertaining to the treatment to follow.
- Entering accurate data onto the electronic patient record system in a timely manner.
- Maintaining cleanliness according to Infection Prevention Control policies.
- Following national policies, procedures and guidelines as set and established by Newmedica.
- Maintaining a positive and approachable attitude towards patients.
- Remaining cool, calm and collected when answering patient queries.
- Managing patient expectations when there are delays or unforeseen circumstances occur.
- Managing the relationship with the patient and the provision of appropriate information to them, ensuring that exceptional customer service is delivered.
- Working with other clinic staff, including clinicians to ensure optimal patient flow, including assisting them if required.
- Undertaking other ad hoc and administrative tasks as required to ensure the smooth running of the clinic.
- Appropriate escalation of process, clinical, equipment, quality or infection risk issues.
- Committed to continued professional development and clinical governance, including participating in appraisal process, completion of mandatory training and clinical audits and research as required.
- Ensuring that all medication is locked away and never left unsupervised.
- Preparing consumables for patients and ensure pre/post op are fully equipped
- Assist the team in positioning patient for surgery and moving equipment
- To assist the scrub nurse and surgeon in theatre
- Attend and participate in team meetings, briefing and debriefing as required
- To carryout theatre preparation of patient documentation
- Assist in weekly/monthly stock checks, including checking expiry dates and re-stocking the theatre area
- Providing hand holding services for patients as and when required
- To take a patient through pre op, surgery and post op
- Working with other staff, including surgeons to ensure optimal patient flow, including assisting them if required
