London, United Kingdom South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust Full time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substance misuse worker to work within the South-West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust Forensic Service. The Forensic Service has a strong tradition of delivering comprehensive evidence-based care and treatment to service-users with a history of problematic substance use.

The forensic service comprises four secure wards (one 15-bedded male medium secure, one 15-bedded female medium secure, one 15-bedded male low secure and one 12-bedded learning disability and autism low secure), a Forensic Outreach Service (FOS) and Support Plus Team.

You will oversee the assessment of need and the provision of treatment for problematic substance use. Assessment tools including outcome measures and structured interviews have already been developed as have treatment materials for psychoeducational workshops and a 14-week treatment group. The outcome measures by which the group is evaluated have also been developed (i.e. the Socrates and Beck Cognitive Insight Scale).

You will be encouraged to develop the role of substance misuse champions on each of the four wards through training, shadowing and supervision, so that all aspects of service-provision are shared amongst staff. The SWLStG Trust has process in place to enable coproduction with service-users and family and friends and this is highly encouraged in order to better engage others in the substance misuse service.

You will receive comprehensive clinical supervision and will be supported to develop your own competencies through both in-house and external training.

You will be involved in the ongoing evaluation of the substance misuse service to ensure the highest standards of provision. This role is initially a two-year fixed-term contract. However, it is hoped that with a positive evaluation report, a business case for extending this post can be put forward to establish this role on a firmer footing.
