Leadership & Co-Ordination Co-ordinating staffing and allocating staff to roles or areas Checking clinic set-ups and ensuring sufficient stock, cleanliness, and infection control measures Supporting new colleagues, training, and developing Undertaking venepuncture to support efficient clinics or ward support services Managing patient wait times to ensure these are not excessive, ensuring sufficient capacity to deliver demand and activity Maintain adequate stocks of consumables and equipment in the work area, including rotation of stock, and identify shortages of any items to the Coordinator / Manager. Monitor quality of work and staff performance, supporting staff members to improve To escalate any urgent issues immediately to the Team Leader Ensure that the correct professional behaviours are demonstrated and developed within all teams. To promote good relationships between staff and users of the service, including dealing with difficult patients, visitors and exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances. To prioritise work according to time bound requests, fasting requests, and urgent requests to ensure a prompt service and to ensure transport of all samples to the laboratory within an appropriate time frame.
To ensure working areas (e.g. individual trolleys, chairs and worktops) and phlebotomy equipment is cleaned regularly and is well maintained by the Phlebotomy team and all spillages are cleaned immediately in line with Trust guidelines. Liase with Wards and other services to gather feedback and improve the service delivery of Phlebotomy Support Data Collection, as directed by the leadership team Provide day to day supervision and coordination of staff, ensuring that duties are carried out in accordance with the SOPs, policies, job description and service requirements. Support the daily management of staff allocations The jobholder will demonstrate an understanding and knowledge across a range of work procedures and policies and will be required to provide advice and guidance to internal team members and colleagues across the Trust.
To deputise for the Phlebotomy Team Leader as/when required To provide cover and oversight for areas across Corporate Operations and the division Quality & Safety Acting as a point of contact for the Phlebotomists for any queries or concerns relating to venepuncture, obtaining samples, labelling, or patient safety To be competent with Trust policy in relation to the control of infection (e.g. needle stick injury, disposal of sharps, blood borne viruses, using disposable gloves and tourniquets). To act as a first point of contact for any patient queries, concerns or complaints To monitor compliance of Phlebotomists To inform the Phlebotomy Team Leader of incidents or difficulties with provision of service and ensuring that incidents are reported through the incident reporting system. To be familiar with working site medical emergency procedures, supporting patients feeling unwell in the department and to guide / support Phlebotomists during crisis, obtaining clinical assistance from local qualified staff.
Attend any team or update meetings as required and ensure that information requiring cascade is circulated within team. Advise on and ensure that the Trusts policies and procedures specific to Phlebotomy are adhered to (e.g. needle-phobic patients, patients requiring medical assistance. To assist with identifying, implementing and monitoring any proposed changes for service improvement.
