The Woods business was established in 1909 and continues to manufacture in Colchester, United Kingdom. We have around 250 people across all business functions from sales through design and product assembly & testing, as well as businesses in USA, UK, Germany & Singapore.

**Main Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Be the key point of contact for all health, safety and environmental issue on the Colchester site and work closely with operational departments to continuously improve the culture within the business
- Drive a continuous improvement ethos across site
- Ensure compliance to and continued accreditation to ISO 14001/45001, including attending all relevant 3rd party audits
- Maintain and update the legal register for H&S/Env
- Develop, implement and maintain an internal audit programme
- Update the metrics across the business with up to date data
- Undertake incident investigations independently or as part of a team
- Compile monthly/quarterly statistics with reports created and published
- Ensure all statutory inspections are carried out as stipulated
- Control all HSE documents and review periodically
- Manage the risk assessment profile for the site
- Provide HSE inductions for all new starters, contractors and agency workers
- Provide on-going refresher and health and safety training where required across the company either externally or internally
- Organise appropriate external training for shop floor equipment, such as fork lift, pallet truck, slinging and lifting and other equipment and machinery as appropriate
- Communicate key HSE data to the workforce via publications, Tool Box Talks & committee meetings
- Mentor and develop the knowledge base of key roles within the business (safety reps/line managers)
- Keep the management team and relevant persons updated on any changes in legislation which may affect operations and propose actions to incorporate changes in legislation with mínimal disruption to operations
- Arrange health surveillance for the site
- Chair and organise the monthly health and safety meeting

**Person Specification/Profile**:

- NEBOSH Qualification
- Background/Experience in manufacturing
- ISO14001/45001conversant
- Internal auditor qualified (Lead Auditor preferred)
- Strong communication, negotiation skills
- Challenging attitude, assertive and diligent, able to stand their ground
- Problem solver with appreciative understanding of operational constraints
- Organised and motivated, with an independent and resourceful approach
- Presentation and training skills desirable
- Appreciation of the human factor with the ability to look beyond the technical aspects of a process or activity
