**Job summary**:
The welfare assistant is a vital member of a small team responsible for providing welfare support to an extremely busy operational unit. They will act as the focal point of all welfare walk in cases, taking messages and relaying to senior welfare staff where appropriate, ensuring confidentiality is respected and maintained. They will provide the presence and continuity in the office during the absence of other welfare staff.

The position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
The Unit Welfare Clerks main duties on a day to day basis are as follows:

- They will maintain an accurate diary of bookings for the contact houses, Community Centre and fleet of inflatables whilst ensuring that all monies collected is recorded with the relevant paperwork completed and filed.
- Day to day running of the Unit contact houses.
- They will be required to prepare the monthly cash accounts and deliver to the regimental accountant.
- Produce the weekly newsletter that provides essential information to the families of the deployed service personnel (SP).
- Compile and deliver Information Flyers for upcoming events.
- Conduct proxy handover/takeover of SFA where SP are unable to attend.
- Attend meetings and take minutes when required.
- Liaise with unit internal departments and external agencies on Welfare matters.
- Ensure publications and Welfare department notice boards are up to date & compliant with policy.
- Collect and deliver the Welfare departments mail and prepare out-going mail.
- Assist with Community Development functions and events for families of deployed SP.
- Attend Dependants Welfare Group Coffee Mornings & meetings.

An understanding of the following directives:

- The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- The Commanding Officer's policy statement.
- The Equal Opportunities Directive for the TLB.
- Unit Management and Training Plan.
- Joint Service Operational Welfare Policy.
- Army welfare policy.

Any other duties, as required by the Unit Welfare Officer (UWO) & Deputy UWO that are reasonably expected for the post grade.

**Person specification**:
