We have a fantastic opportunity for an Intermediate or Senior level Environmental Consultant to join an wonderful, independent consultancy in Cheltenham.

**About the job**:
This is a great opportunity to become involved with a specialist practice that focuses on landscape ecology, planning and urban sustainability, and to make a tangible difference in your field.

You'll be joining an excellent team as part of a specialist environmental planning and environmental assessment consultancy, working with various local planning authorities around England and Wales. They provide a range of services including preparation of local plans, strategic environmental assessments, habitats regulations assessments, landscape character assessments and large-scale strategic ecological assessments.

Your role will include:

- Providing consultancy expertise and supporting your team with the environmental assessment of plans and programs.
- Maintaining a strong awareness of how the latest changes to legislation have an impact on client projects. Ideally, demonstrate knowledge of the UK town and country planning system, ecosystem services, landscape character assessment, plan-making process and relevant sustainability issues.
- Report writing and interpreting data, formatting it into high quality, comprehensive reports, written in a manner that is robust yet can still be understood by non-technical people.
- Assisting with team management and supporting the consultant team.
- Analysing geographic datasets for a range of technical disciplines including, for example, biodiversity, flood risk, transportation and socioeconomic factors - experience or training in GIS is desirableSalary for this position will be based on individual skills and qualifications, in the region of £24,000 - £28,000 per annum for Consultant, and £28,000 - £40,000 for Senior. Benefits will include stakeholder pension, paid professional institution subscription, and CPD allowance, and hybrid working opportunities.

**About you**:
We are looking for someone with minimum 2+ years environmental experience of working within a consultancy environment, or 4+ years for the Senior position. You will also need:

- A Master's level qualification (2:1 or above) in an appropriate Environmental discipline
- Relevant professional membership of organisations such as CIEEM, CIWEM, the Landscape Institute, IEMA or the RTPI.
- Excellent report writing skills
- The ability to promote the cause of landscape and ecology-led planning and policy in a responsible and professional manner that balances the needs of development with environmental protection, enhancement and management.
- A willing versatility for new projects, showing diligence and independence when working on projects.
- A personable and professional personality and the ability to work with a small, friendly team, as well as independently
- Broad knowledge of the UKs environmental planning system, including a good knowledge of the NPPF and PPG in relation to landscape, ecology and strategic environmental assessment
- Experience or training in GIS (desirable)
- Available to commence employment within 1-2 months
