The Data Governance and Security team develops, maintains, and supports system and process security, data governance, data protection compliance, regulatory reporting, and external and internal audit requirements. The team ensures that strategies and procedures in relation to these areas are fit for purpose and is responsible for providing a ‘gold source’ of all course information and student data to ensure best practice in relation to our internal and external reporting commitments.
About the Role
This post is a key role focussed on delivering internal insight and analysis reports and supporting our statutory reporting requirements.
The Head of Student Data Reporting will lead and manage a team that ensures we are able to meet our internal reporting requirements and that supports the needs of the senior team, and wider Directorate, for effective and accessible reporting on student data and course information across a wide range of business and operational workstreams.
The role holder will be expected to work with a high level of autonomy, providing leadership and support for their team and colleagues through specialist advice, technical data analysis and policy recommendations.
They will have operational responsibility for a defined portfolio of education and student professional services, as:
- A departmental lead within the Students and Education Directorate; or
- Project/programme/departmental lead within an academic faculty; or
- the lead of defined divisional-wide initiatives
Heads work within and across teams and functions, engaging with a wide range of colleagues across King’s. They contribute and lead on activities which positively impact the student experience. This includes ensuring:
- Close working with their Associate Director, and across organisational boundaries, to identify and action opportunities to improve efficiency and consistency of service (or project) delivery
- Efficient resource utilisation and organisation of work resources within their department (or project)
- Proactive engagement with service users and stakeholders to facilitate mutually effective working relationships
- Their department (or project) embeds a culture of service, transparency and continuous improvement
This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.
This is currently a hybrid working role with both work from home and on campus. The role will be based in our department, on the Waterloo campus
Key Responsibilities
- Support internal reporting of student data and course information.
- Develop processes to support reliable internal data reporting.
- Combine different datasets to create suites of accurate and useful reports for the Directorate and internal stakeholders, accessed via user-friendly dashboards, that meet reporting needs, identify trends and offer new insights.
- Work with internal stakeholders to develop and continuously improve internal processes supporting mandatory reporting to ensure high-quality reports.
- Progress the publication of appropriate data sets to inform external stakeholders and support freedom of information requests.
- Create a positive data culture by raising the data literacy of the team, assessing and meeting staff data training needs, and by communicating complex information suited to the audience.
- Create a network of relationships internally and externally for the purpose of improving the reporting and own expertise on student data and course information.

Essential criteria
- Relevant work experience and/or education: We think a wide range of different work and educational experiences could support you to be successful in this role. Relevant educational experiences might include higher education in a related discipline, professional qualifications or other training.
