**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Job Title**: Technology Advisor

**Hours**: 28 hours a week

**Pay**:£18432.00 per annum

**Responsible to**: Service Manager

**THE PRIMARY PURPOSE**
- To provide training and assistance with technology to visually impaired people.

**MAIN TASKS**
- Undertake initial needs assessments to establish specific requirements of the individual.
- Offer training to clients on how to use software or hardware according to their specific requirements as stated in needs assessment, including PC and Apple products.
- Ability to learn new assistive software and hardware quickly and accurately to provide the best support for clients.
- Knowledge of mobile devices and a willingness to learn about them.
- Deliver training to assist staff on understanding the benefits to visually impaired people of using IT.
- Offer assistance within our care home with any technology requirements.
- Attend any relevant training or meetings and have the ability to develop existing skills.
- Manage funders reports and other paperwork effectively, accurately and promptly.
- Maintain communication with the Service Manager regarding progress and partake in regular review meetings.
- Confident in using social media and websites to promote the services offered by the Vision Support Centre and staff.
- To be able to promote technology to our Clients and enable more visually impaired people to get online.
- To assist with the Talking News recording as and when required.
- To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**
**Essential**
- Experience in teaching or providing training in computer software and hardware.
- Experience of training on 1:1 basis or in small groups
- Experience of digital voice recorders, scanning pens, personal organisers and MS Office suite, PCs, laptops, tablets and mobile phones
- Good interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal, written and IT skills, able to take a logical approach to problem solving.
- Ability to learn new assistive software and hardware.
- Excellent organisational skills and an ability to maintain accurate records, excellent attention to detail.
- Confidence in working independently with clients.

**Desirable**
- Experience in teaching or training on e.g.: Inspiration, Mind Manager

Pro, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Texthelp Read & Write, typing tutors, various dictionaries, Dolphin, Zoomtext, JAWS, ClaroRead.
- Experience of working with disabled people or people with visual impairment
- Knowledge of visual impairments

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 28 per week

**Salary**: £18,432.96 per year

- Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Barrow-In-Furness: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Licence/Certification:

- Driving Licence and access to a car (required)
