Bolton, United Kingdom Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust Full time

This role is suitable for applicants with experience of working within ASC/related field, but a preceptorship would be considered for the right applicant (commencing on Band 7 and working towards 8A competencies).

You will undertake a range of activities under the guidance of a qualified clinical psychologist. This includes diagnostic assessments, 1:1 clinical work (incl direct psychological therapy developed to meet the needs of autistic people), post diagnostic group work, report writing, supervision of assistant psychologists, project work and data collection.

As the job involves working within a specialist context, we are looking for someone who has experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a broad range of care environments (eg Outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings). You will have experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.

Other key qualities include experience gained during supervised training of working with people with autism spectrum conditions; experience of teaching, training and/or supervision; awareness of national policy and guidance regarding Autism Spectrum Conditions; and an understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with Autism Spectrum Conditions.

Desirable qualities include further training in Autism Spectrum Conditions, further training in NICE recommended tools for the assessment & diagnosis of autism spectrum conditions, expertise in the delivery of psychological interventions to people with autism spectrum conditions and experience of supervising Assistant Psychologists.

The post is split between the Bolton ASC Team and Trafford Extended Service (TES), who provide assessment and post-diagnostic services to people with ASCs. Both teams are recognised as innovative in their service delivery and are keen to keep evolving practice to best meet the needs of this client group. They were key members of the SHAPE project, national research concerning the identification of appropriate service delivery models for people with an ASC.

The Bolton ASC Team is part of the Bolton Directorate, which provides integrated mental health and social care services, community-based and in patient. There is also a primary care mental health service.

TES provides assessment and post-diagnostic services to people with ASCs and an assessment and treatment service for people with Attention Deficit Hyper-Activity Disorder. TES is part of the South Manchester Directorate which provides integrated mental health and social care services, community-based and in patient.

The post is also connected to a number of wider vibrant psychology departments (in Bolton, Trafford and Manchester), where regular meetings and CPD events are held.

We are members of regional working groups, developing service specifications for autism diagnostic and post diagnostic services across Greater Manchester. We are always keen to develop our knowledge, whilst also adding to the understanding of the wider health and social care system.

The postholder will work primarily within the ASC Care pathways, with qualified staff in their clinical and administrative duties.
