An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Core Trainee (CT2) posts in Ear Nose & Throat team at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. The main responsibilities will be attending ward rounds when on shift and helping others with other duties given by the on-call team. You will attend and review and treat patients that present through the Trust's emergency department. Senior support will be provided in the form of the on-call Registrar and Consultant. You may be required to support the senior on-call members of the team in theatres. When on-call out of hours, you will provide on-going support to the wards for any patients admitted under the team by ensuring all duties are completed and facilitating any discharges. You will be based at Peterborough City Hospital but may be required to travel to Hinchingbrooke Hospital to provide cover on an adhoc basis.

You will have opportunity to contribute and participate in the departments audit and research opportunities with consultant supervision. Participation in teaching programmes for medical staff.

The Ear Nose Throat Department is based across our hospitals sites at Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital. We have our dedicated state-of-the-art outpatients’ clinics, theatre and shared Head and Neck/Urology ward (A2). Besides general ENT, we provide Paediatric ENT, Head and Neck Cancer, Thyroid, Parathyroid, Rhinology, Neck Lump Clinics and Specialist Voice Clinic Services.

There is a staffed ENT emergency clinic, which runs Monday to Friday. The department has a dedicated one-stop Neck Lump Clinic supported by radiology and cytology.

The on-call system is a three tier on call rota with the registrar and consultant being non-resident out of hours.

Your main responsibilities will be attending ward round whenever you are on shift and helping with any jobs given on the round that require Senior SHO input. You will attend the ENT emergency clinic to review and treat any patients as required who present through the Emergency Clinic and Emergency Department. Senior support will be provided in the form of an on-call registrar. You may be required to support one of the senior members of staff in the emergency or main theatres. When on call out of hours you will need to provide on-going support to the ward for any patients admitted under the team by ensuring all jobs are completed and facilitating any discharges.

If you are scheduled for an Theatre/Clinic Shift, then you will attend either the theatre or the outpatients clinic to shadow one of the senior members of the team to support your learning and development. Attendance to theatre lists or clinics outside of Otolaryngology can be arranged but will need to be discussed with a consultant and arranged by you with the other speciality. You may be required to support the on-call team, due to sickness, annual leave, study leave etc. and will be pulled back to the on-call team, and your responsibilities will be as the above.
