We have an opportunity for a full time position as Head of Finance at UK Biobank to lead the finance team in the day-to-day management of all financial requirements of the organisation. Ensuring the timely and regular production of accurate and complete management and statutory accounts. Undertaking regular and detailed financial forecasts and budgets and informing management of the financial implications of activities being undertaken/proposed.

Key Responsibilities
Monitoring the performance of the business against budget and potential future developments.
Review of monthly accounts prepared by the accounting team and provision of actuals to Project leaders. Ensure monthly management accounts are prepared within required deadlines.
Reviewing and monitoring cash flow and future requirements.
Lead the development of the budget for Board submission and approval.
Prepare the Annual Report and Accounts for Audit and maintain policies to ensure in accordance with UK accounting standards, Companies Act and Charity accounting requirements.
Be the primary contact with the External Auditors.
Look for opportunities to reduce costs and improve financial performance.
Develop financial models to aid forecasts/budgets and development of longer term financial strategy and assist Project leaders/Dept. Managers with their forecasting.
Oversee the development of cash flow forecasts to support Treasury Committee and ensure UK Biobank requests sufficient core and enhancement funding from the Funders each quarter.
Maintain and improve financial controls with the development of the business.
Manage ongoing banking relationships as a member of the Treasury Committee.
Manage insurance renewal and appropriate coverage.
Oversee the development of invoicing systems for access charges.
Provide expert financial advice to the CFO and wider executive team e.g. audit, tax, VAT
Overseeing all other financial tasks as required.
Be responsible for the day to day management, direction and performance of your direct reports, including providing coaching and training as required.
Act as the ‘budget manager’ for the Finance cost centre, with responsibility for forecasting and expenditure approval in line with organisation’s policies.
Champion and be a role model for the brand and values of the organisation
About you
Essential
Experience of working at Head of Finance/Financial Controller level or equivalent in medium size enterprise.
Qualified Accountant
Knowledge of UK Value Added tax, other indirect taxes (such as withholding tax) and payroll/employee benefit taxes.
Strong Excel skills
Experience of using financial systems
Analytical and enquiring mind.
Highly organised with experience of leading teams, and developing processes and policies to adapt to changing business needs.
Requirement to complete Basic DBS check
Desirable
Wider experience of financial controls and governance.
Experience of the life sciences/medical research sector.
Experience of working within academia or the public sector
Experience of working within an environment of growing complexity.

UK Biobank’s database, which includes blood samples, heart and brain scans and genetic data of the 500,000 volunteer participants, is globally accessible to approved researchers who are undertaking health-related research that’s in the public interest.

UK Biobank recruited 500,000 people aged between 40-69 years in 2006-2010 from across the UK. With their consent, they provided detailed information about their lifestyle, physical measures and had blood, urine and saliva samples collected and stored for future analysis.
